    Hey everyone

I need your advice..... Im GOING to start back on LT tomorrow, I had thought that my parents would be away for a month, but due to family reasons they will home. Anyway.. the last time I was on LT I had told them a little white lie and afterwards my mother asked me not to go back on this diet (but who really ever listens to their mammy when they want to do something the opposite?) Anyway... as my mam will be around for the next 11 days Im trying to think of reasons on not to make her suspect that Im eating food...

    I was thinking the following:-
    -feeling a bit sick
    -am going out for dinner
    -not really hungry
    -already had something to eat
-will make something in a while

    has anyone got any ideas?

Hi TootieFrootie....its a difficult one! May I ask how old you are?? I only ask because if you are an adult and you explain to your mam what it means to you then she will have to accept your decision, however if you are younger it may be a bit trickier! Let me know and I'll give you my advice! (I know what Irish mammies are like :) )

Thanks Taylor thats not a bad idea.... I have been dropping hints over the passed few days that the "diet" starts tomorrow, but Im afraid that if I say that she will go "great what are we doing"? hmmm have to think how that will work....

Lets just say Im nearer my thirties than I am my twenties ;), I know I still live with my parents- thats a totally different kettle of fish, I know what you are saying mrsd2b but I already said that to her last time I was on LT and although reluctantly she was fine about it, I dont think I could be honest with her again.... but I know honesty is the best policy hummmm.....

Its your decision and they should respect that really so if it comes a point when food is being put in front of you, then you may have to tell them. I've just had the same thing with my Mum!!

Thanks Mrs N.. I think for the time being I will just avoid the food issue and see what happens, I might do the whole "Ive eaten already" or "Im heading out tonight" hopefully that will last a bit, but I know there will be a time when Ive to come clean but Id prefer to detail the inevitable as long as I can!!!

    Hey tootiefrootie,

God thats so annoying, I know 'really' its ur decision and they have to respect it as an adult and everything but I completley understand what you mean about the hassle of it and everything.
Perhaps your mother twigs it but she doesn't want to interfere and she will happily not mention it? Does your mam cook for u? If so maybe you should just tell her ur giving it a go to give yourself a kickstart, just tell her your weight is getting you down and this is a positive step. Oh let us know how it goes and good luck!

    Update

    Hey everyone

Thank you all for giving me advice. Well the situation is this, my aunt is gravely ill at the moment and we are all waiting for her to pass away, so my folks arent around too much which in a selfish way is good because I can "lie" and tell my mam that Ive eaten.. Ive even put some lasagna on a dinner plate, removed the lasagna, left the "dirty" plate on the kitchen table so she knew I "ate" some...

My only concern is the funeral- the family are talking about going to a golf club afterwards, I think I will be fine if it's a buffet, but if it's a sit down meal I dont know what to do... probably hide in the car and have my shakes :D

I am sorry about your Auntie. I do think, that after the funeral, you should tell your mother about LT and why you are doing it. Ask her, that even if she does not approve, to respect your decision. Remind her that it is a pharmacist monitored diet. Perhaps show her this site and let her read some of the inspirational stories on here.
I don't think you should hide it from her as this is stressful to you and makes a hard diet harder and it always underestimates her capacity to support you. She might just surprise you this time round.

    Hi TootieFrootie,

I am also very sorry to hear about your aunty, it must be horrible. I do however sympathise with you for having to put on a charade as well, I know that sounds dramatic but so does having to 'pretend' eat the lasagne...believe me I know what Irish mothers can be like, overbearing doesn't even come close...but I agree with Irish Molly you should definitely tell your mam. She will have to respect your deisicion as an adult, its your life, your body, your peace of mind, not hers. It is up to you to control how you feel, what you do etc etc nobody else. Its tough but she'll just have to swallow it. I know this sounds a bit rude but it seems that this is really dragging you down and it could eventually hinder your diet. I think you need to be strong and tell her (it seems she has a lot on her mind at the moment with your aunty being ill, she shouldn't react that badly to your news anyway, in the large scheme of things its not that big, if she reacts outrageously just put things into perspective for her)
Good luck hun and good luck with your LT diet too xxx

I also think telling her is a good idea.
This is already a tough diet, hiding it is even harder 'cause it means very often you can't have the shakes when you're hungry, but only at a moment when you can do it sneaky. And if you don't have them when you're hungry, you might start to binge.

I took the step to tell my work colleagues from day one, and they're so supportive! Yes, some of them don't approve, but they respect my decision and ask me how I'm doing very often.
It makes it easy not to have to hide it for lunch and to just be able to have shakes at my desk.

You'll feel much more capable if you can have the shakes whenever you want and not have to hide them from your mum
