Thinking of giving up :-(

I'm still quite new to Slimming World but now only seem to be losing 1lb a week and still have LOADS left to lose.

I am vegetarian with PCOS so can only do green days but without the carbs pasta, potatoes etc.

I am really struggling and getting very disheartened. Had a sneaky weigh in before tomorrow and looks like i've gained 1lb :-( I don't cheat or go over my syns (normally have 5)

Don't know what i'm doing wrong???:cry::cry:

You can have between 10 and 15 syns a day so you are making things harder for yourself and maybe not eating enough to make the plan work. The syns are part of the plan too :)

I'm not sure how the pcos would affect your diet have you got a food diary you could share or give a few examples of meals you eat/days food etc to give more of an idea?
Does pcos make it slower to lose weight so the fact that you are losing is a good thing even if slower than you would like?

Hi Raven

A pound a week should not be sneezed at. That is nearly 4 stone a year. Your losses may be slower due to pcos, I don't know, but it is still a very good rate of loss. This is a great time of the year to be doing SW with all the fresh salads and veggie bbqs and picnics :D I hope you stick at it and wish you loads of good luck and patience :)

I have loads to lose too, I started a good bit heavier than you and want to get down to even less than your target..apart from a few really good weeks where I have lost 2 or 3lbs most weeks I have lost just 1lb too, but thats very normal and well within the recommended weekly weight loss.

So please don't be discouraged, we don't all lose weight the same way and even at 1lb a week you WILL get there.

I bet if you evened it out you would find you are really losing about 1/2 stone a month, that seems to be the average and thats how its working for me - I wish it was faster, obviously, but still I can live with it and am getting to be very pleased with that.

All is not lost, chin up and keep going xx

Hi thank you for the messages :)

I have increased my syns to around 7.5 a day this week to see if it makes much difference.

A typical day is

Breakfast - 28g Special K (5 syns) with either Muller Light yoghurt or 250mlor semi skimmed (HEA)

Lunch - Small salad or beans quorn sausages, 3 pagan crisp rolls with 2 light darylea triangles (HE A & B)

Dinner - Free quorn pieces with salad or veg

Snacks - Muller light, Mini Reveta, fruit

PCOS does make it harder to lose but need to lose the weight to ease the symptoms of it.

xx

Your diary looks fine to me. I would only suggest eating more fruit, increasing your water intake, ditching the non-veggie mullers and keep an eye on the syns forum as some of the quorn sausages are now synned. I think you are doing very well. There was a programme on telly last night (Embarrassing Fat Bodies on C4) and they were saying how weight loss lessened the symptoms of pcos. You will benefit in so many ways if you keep at it x

Is there a reason you're cutting carbs? It looks to me that you aren't eating enough tbh.

Cutting the carbs due to PCOS, specialist said not to eat it as it gets stored as fat

Out of interest does the specialist know you are doing sw as on green carbs are a very important part of feeling full.
If the specialist has said to cut carbs altogether what have they recommended instead? Like someone else said, you don't seem to be eating enough. Have you asked about changing to gluten/wheat free products instead coz this is what my friend has to do due to intolerance. Afaik it's wheat in products that slow down weight loss.

Cutting the carbs due to PCOS, specialist said not to eat it as it gets stored as fat

Hi! I know I shouldn't argue with a specialist but that sounds a bit generalist to me. EVERYTHING gets stored as fat if you eat too much of it.. maybe they didn't know you were going to follow SW? Maybe their suggestion to cut carbs was just a way to get you to loose weight? I'm sure they did not intend you to cut all carbs altogether forever?:confused:

Anyways, I would suggest swapping you synned special K to special K sustain then you can have it as your second HEB and it has more fibre in it. Maybe spend a few syns on dried fruit as a snack if you don't want to have chocs etc And fill up on more fruit and veg

And be happy with 1.5-1 lb a week! Slow and steady wins the race! You didn't put the weight on overnight so you can't loose it overnight either! If you think how long it took you to gain weight (years, probably!) and then think about fast you are loosing it.. you can see even at 'only' a lb per week you are loosing it a lot faster than you put it on!

Good luck :)

Hey!

It may feel frustrating to be moving so slowly, but hopefully you'll stick with it! I'm sure you'll get there1 :)

xx

hi there - just wanted to add that i am a very slow loser......i dont get on with carbs so i follow the Red/Original plan that limits my carb intake each day.

Dont be upset by 1lb a week - my average is 0.75 lbs a week i think.....and look at my weight loss so far....its all about dedication - did you gain the weight over a couple of months?

I suspect the answer is no - so dont be so hard on yourself to get it all off so fast. 1lb a week is a great pace. Superb in fact, and my weight loss mantra!!!

Good luck x

What would be your alternative by giving up? Would you try a different Plan? Give up altogether and go back to an unhealthy diet? The way I see it is three months from now after giving up on sw and probably being the same weight or heavier wouldn't you wish you had stuck to it and be almost a stone lighter? It's all about perspective. We're all so anxious to lose weight NOW but if you think about what you could lose in a big chunk of time it makes things a lot more encouraging. Hang in there, we're all in it for the long haul!

Hi Raven

Please please please don't give up. I have suffered from PCOS and diabetes for the last ten years. I lost five stones (still more to go) over a couple of years. It does come off very very slowly, but don't be disheartened as it WILL come off.

As you are a veggie, you obviously can't do red days, which is what has worked for me, but what I do have is a small amount of wholemeal pasta, or even wheat free pasta, small amount of potatoes and sometimes rice and cous cous. I occasionally do green days to relieve me of my carb cravings, but even when I do, I don't have white pasta, it bloats me sooooo much.

I would suggest things like half a pack of ainsley harriot vege cous cous mixed with chunky chargrilled veg and maybe some quorn chunks, small portion of sw chipes (one 200g potatoes worth) with egg, beans etc. Try making potato cakes with either smash or fresh mash potato, mixed with half cooked veg (grated carrots, diced onion, peas, sweetcorn, courgette and shredded cabbage) and hex cheese, fry quickly in frylight then put in oven for 15 mins. Using lots of veg and the cheese will reduce the amount of potato you have. Quorn curry with vege rice. There are lots of other things I could suggest, but I've probably rambled enough!

No disrespect to your consultant, but it is near on impossible to sustain a diet without any carbs and in my experience and opinion is totally unnecessary. Just remember, small portions, twice a day, of potatoes, rice and cous cous, limit your bread (even wholemeal) and don't eat white pasta, it's the worst culprit when suffering PCOS.

Hope this helps little, please stick at it, my symptoms are a lot lot better and the pain nowhere near as bad.

Thank you all for the messages. I STS this week :-( and I increased my syns as suggested.

Oh well keep going x

I have a friend who has PCOS and she has tried literally every diet going and never been able to loose weight, except with SW. Yes it is slow, but if it is coming off that is at least the right direction. What would you do if you stopped doing sw though? As surely its better to keep loosing that lb a week rather than putting it on :)

You will get their hun, and like everyone else has said, I dont htink you are eating enough!! This thing with no carbs is a little odd, wheat-free carbs sounds good though and I do find I loose more having 11-13 syns a day than 10! Dont know why but our bodies work in odd ways so its a bit of experimenting involved!Good luck xxx

Edit: Just seen your sig, is that your losses? As thats 10lbs in 5 weeks!!! Thats brilliant and averages at 2lbs a week which is above the normal average for sw of 1-1.5lbs. I dont think you have anything to worry about hun, the sts is probably your body catching up with the brilliant losses!!xx

I tried some wholewheat pasta and cous cous this week but end up very bloated and feeling sickly.

Think I'm just a little worried about increasing syns as all the diets ive done before have been eat as little as possible to lose weight. Think it will take more time to change my thinking than my body.

xx

Hiya, just wanted to say I've lost roughly 1lb per week - think my average is now just under 1lb per week. In 6 months I've lost 2stone and am almost halfway to target. Although I'd like to lose quicker (wouldn't we all?) I'm happy that the trend is downwards and consistent. Don't let 1lb per week get you down - try carrying a bag with 10lb worth of stuff in it and you'll soon see how well you're doing.

And as for sneaky weighing during the week - if it's going to get you down don't do it. It's not an accurate way of weighing as your body fluctuates loads during the week.

I also echo what others have said about discussing your diet indepth with your specialist. They should be able to give you some advice.

Most of all enjoy SW, it's an awesome plan.
