Hi ladies, hope everyone is having a good morning.

I'm a wee bit confused... I joined sw last week and have been using boiled rice with alot of my meals but to be honest I find it very bland so have been looking for an alternative. I went on the sw website to check the syn values for Uncle Ben's flavoured express rice pouches when i manually enter the nutritional info in the syns calculator it comes up as 10 syns?? I thought this was a bit much so i checked it in syns online and the syn value varies between 2+4 depending on the flavour... so I've no idea which value to go by, any ideas??

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

You need to enter rice as a Free Food when you enter the calculator.

    hi Angela,

I always search by manufacturer/brand when looking for syn values. If you key in Uncle Ben's and then "express" it gives you 3 pages of syn values.

If you are entering the nutritional values, if the first item is a free food eg: rice, then you can give it a "free food allowance" when calculating the values. Just make sure you read the instructions online as the free food allowance doesn't apply to everything eg: sweets/crisps/pasta sauces etc.

    Hope that helps,

This is useful to know, thinking about using these for work as they are easy to heat up!

If you want to cook, but still add flavour, throw in a flavoured stock cube whilst cooking, or some herbs/spices when drained and still warm - last night I had some noodles, and added a sprinkle of Chinese 5spice for some oomph
Not as quick, but free & flavoursome
