Hi i have been on the 100% LPT and although i haven't reached my goal i'm contemplating re-feeding.

The thing is, i wanted to do this until my holiday- a week on friday. The other thing is - im going to the races tomorrow & i it's a possibility i'll have one or two vodka's and maybe something to eat... it wouldn't be junk food - no carbs i know. The past few days i've really been wanting something to eat & my will power is fading. The chemist advised re-feeding due to me going on holiday etc - she even said start tonight.... i don't know what to do. Should I get some actual food in my belly ahead of tomorrow? Do I start monday?

By eating fish/chicken or drinking a vodka bring me out of Ketosis? I'm so stuck - half of me is saying eat - mainly beacuse I really want to, the other half is saying no wait till after the weekend... ugh

Please give me some advice, really appreciate it  jen

DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL IF YOU ARE KETOTIC!
Alcohol is a powerful inhibitor of gluconeogenesis. In fact, it forces part of the gluconeogenic metabolic process into reverse. This means that if all the glucose in the blood is being derived from gluconeogenesis then the consumption of alcohol will inevitably cause the blood glucose level to fall. Worse still, the alcohol also stops ketone body production, thus leaving the brain entirely without fuel.
A person who is ketotic is 100% reliant on gluconeogenesis to maintain adequate levels of glucose in the blood. If, under these circumstances alcohol is taken, the person will become disorientated and might lose consciousness, not just from the alcohol, but from low blood sugar. Needless to say, this could be very dangerous, and even fatal.
Alcohol does not have these effects if the glycogen stores in the liver are normal. Under these circumstances the blood glucose level in the blood is maintained by the breakdown of liver glycogen, a process that is not influenced by alcohol. If a person becomes confused under these circumstances it is due simply to the pharmacological effects of the alcohol

Read the above . If you are planning to drink then I would eat something first.

Thanks Kay, completely understand :) if I have a piece of chicken breast before any alcohol passes my lips - will it mock me out of ketosis? Will I then go back to square one? Not sure it matters much if Monday I start a re-feed? Thanks

Hi Jeni, If your drinking then it's best to come out of ketosis first. Chicken breast probably wont knock you out.You will need some carbs really, and that will knock you out ;)
