URGENT sorry another refeed query: Pasta weight cooked vs uncooked

Im sorry but Ive got another query.

Does anyone have a rough conversion rate for measuring uncooked pasta weight/cooked pasta weight (the dried stuff)?

Im on Day 6 of refeed and am having quorn bolognaise - I just went to make the spaghetti and hit this problem. The sheet says 4oz of spaghetti - 3.5oz equals 100g but that is quarter of a pack so Im now assuming it means 4oz of cooked weight pasta. However, I dont know how much uncooked pasta makes 4oz cooked pasta. DOH I know Im not explaining that very well but hopefully you get what I mean.

But this has also got me thinking and worrying - all this week when it has come to cooking my 4-6oz of chicken or fish etc, I have been weighing before steaming them. There has always seemed to be a huge amount of food and Ive never actually managed to finish a portion but I thought that was down to my tummy being shrunk (and the fact that Ive had flu so even less of an appetite). However Im now wondering whether I have been doing it all wrong/back to front and preparing the wrong amounts.

Aaaaarrrrggghhhh - see me, Ill always find a way to make something simple a problem .... its an inherent fault within!!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hmm im not too sure but i think rice doubles its volume once cooked and yes we defo have to weigh pasta/rice once cooked The chicken and fish is weighed raw though

Im sorry i cant be much help on your question as to how much dry pasta weighs 4oz of cooked, maybe have a goose on google or something? x

thanks so much for your speedy reply. I think what Ill have to do (I dont want to leave it any later to eat) is cook 100g which is at least an easy number to work with - then weigh and work out percentages blah pi*h blah afterwards - and ditch the remainder. I have googled it and got nowhere - the only things I found were converting weights to cup measurements, which wasnt of much help! lol.

Thats a massive relief about the chicken n fish thing tho' - phew [wipes sweat from brow]! At least I got that one right lol...

Oh dear - what a stress - Ill be glad when its Monday and Im attempting maintenance instead without all this worry about reintroducing at the right time and the right amount etc etc.

I hope you are having a great weekend and that you have a loverly Sat nite! Im just going to be making this and curling up in front of the X-Factor (thank god for Sky+).

Yep your guess was right. It doubles when cooked so thats handy and easy to work out in the future. Cheers.

Hey hunny. Well, it says we're allowed 4oz of pasta, this also goes for rice.

Okay, if you were to get some uncooked pasta and weighed it at 4oz, when cooked it will weigh 8oz. So what you should do, if you live with others, cook some pasta and then weigh some in a bowl till you have 4oz. Even if you live alone, just save some for later. Yum

It should be cooked pasta/rice......meat is uncooked.

Have you had a look at Rosemary Conley weighing pots...I have them and they are great...you basically fill certain pots and it is so many oz/lbs, etc......4 different sizes and they come with a little card, so if you use cooked pasta/rice, you use one particular colour pot, if uncooked, another...even helped with cereal, etc....very helpful. Just a suggestion, although just weighing on scales is just as good, bu I just find these so easy to use!
