That makes u lose weight on a vlcd is it the reduced Cals or ketosis? Or does ketosis just make it easier to have the reduced Cals??
 
It's the reduced calorie but yes the ketosis makes it possible, if you weren't in ketosis you'd be starving, all the time and who could stick to that, plus ketosis means you're burning fat, not muscle or tissue so it's much better than doing a low-cal diet.

The main thing is it works and that's why we all love it so :D
 
Ketosis itself doesn't ensure that you are not burning muscle mass - it's having enough protein coming in whoch does that. The programme is designed to make sure that you get enough protein but if you did a DIY VLCD you would find it difficult to get enough protein and would be burning muscle tissue. That's one of the reasons that DIY VLCDs are dangerous.
 
Exactly... and reduced muscle (lean) tissue = slower metabolism... and none of us want that! :eek:
