what to do with fennel?

I have never used fennel before but was given one by my consultant in raffle and was wondering what on earth to do with it. Does anyone know of any nice recipes i could use it in please?

It is actually nice in salads if you slice it really thinly or use the fine slice thingy on a grater. Or in chunks and roasted with meditarranean vegetables. Or dice it finely and treat it a bit like onion or celery as part of a pasta sauce recipe.
