    hi,
Me and my son and daughter are starting Atkins tomorrow, and can`t wait. We are all not just a few pounds overweight but really morbidly obese. We have tried all the usual diets  and are still just as big. I lost over 10st ,on LL 9 years ago, and although kept it all off for over 2 years, started to run a bar, an wham the lbs went right back on with a little extra too.
So dont worry about where all the lo carbers have gone, we shall be right here stuffing ourselves with meat and fish just to keep you company.:D

    good luck, keep posting..

    Carol, Scott and Laura
    xx :)

    Hi to all Low Carbers,

I am planning to low carb as soon as I've recovered from my 2nd operation since the new year . I have been reading Protein Power by the Dr's Eades and also Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Low Carb Diet. It makes a lot of sense to me, I am sure my carb addiction is what has made me and kept me fat all these years. So as soon as I am on my feet again and able to plan and organise it all, I will be joining you - hope that's okay?! :)

what would be your main tips for going low carb?
what main things would you avoid and what main things would you stick to - basicly what would a days food consist of?

Ok get a low carb book there are many out there,i have atkins.I tend to stick to everything in the book, apart from my coffee, coffe on atkins is a no no but i still drink it.Take i good multi vitamin,on the atkins the first to weeks will be meat, cream, cheese and a few vegg. The first week is the hardest as you crave sugar and bread but it really is worth it.The most important thing i can say is research as there are a lot of different low carb plans out there, what might suit one maybe not for someone else.Southbeach diet is another one which is not as low carb as atkins.Cant think of anything else.Lucyxx

i wouldnt do the atkins, youve got to eat meat - i was more just after what kind of foods to cut down on not a specific diet, but it's something i'll look into , keeping my carbs down - i know for myself, eating potatoes and bread, they dont help me lose one bit even if my calories are good, i must just start storing them or something!! Thanks Lucy, I know there is such a thing as being carb sensitive, and i'm working on keeping my sugar down by changing to diabetic chocolate.

    Ki Rowan,

Diabetic choc can still spike your blood glucose even tho' it is sugar free. The sweetners in it can still do this. Also if you eat more than a bit at a time you might get a very sore tum and toilet probs!! I speak from bitter experience re the latter, and know about the blood glucose as both my daughters are Type 1 diabetics. Also, it's quite pricey ..... Just a thought, anyways.

skinnymongoose, thats why my signature mood thing is set to breezy - i am full of wind, and it could have been off the bar i had today now you mention that!
I get the same effect of diet polos from the sorbitol, but dont think theres any sorbitol in the choccy, aspartame is though.
i still think its the lesser evil for me as i dont feel like i havnt had enough of the diabetic choccy whereas i cant get enough of sugar.

    Hi Rowan,

Look out for malitol and xylitol too, they both have ... er... laxative effects on me!! But I am a pig really and can overeat diabetic sweets/choc as easily as normal stuff so it's my own fault I guess! I agree that from a blood glucose point of view the diabetic stuff is probably the lesser of 2 evils. Good luck with the heathy eating.
