I'm not too sure about alternatives cuz I had my heart set on getting an ipod so I didn't look at alternatives-but I'm sure you could find some on Amazon.
I've got an 80gb classic and it plays video. I'm sure some of the smaller ones do as well-my friend has an 8gb and I seem to recall us watching Family Guy on it. Just have a nosey around and you'll find summat suitable
