I got a placement at a primary school to do some helping out...so i can get my application going to do my degree! I've wanted to be a teacher since I was about 11 lol :)

Yay!! :)
xxxx

Well done you!! It's getting harder and harder to get placements in schools because of CRB checks, so you've done really well. And it'll help no end with your application! Good luck!

It's getting harder and harder to get jobs in general so every little helps at the moment especially when funding is being cut left right and centre.

Well done.

I'd love to be a teacher, really would, probably one of the most rewarding jobs on this planet. Up there with surgeon/doctor/other highly paid job, unfortunately teachers don't seem to be rewarded as they should! x

Well done !!!! Enjoy !!!

Aw thank you all, thats sweet :)

And Alex - you should do it!! There arent enough men in the profession...but you're right they arent rewarded enough (or paid enough!!) xxx

Yay, good luck with it

Congratulations and if you do to a uni they may offer other placements at schools as does my uni with mentoring and assistanting the teacher :)

Thanks everyone:) Yeah once i begin my degree (hopefully) I would be doing teaching placements and TA placements, this one is just work experience - You have to have recent experience to even apply for the course! Its very competitive. Really excited to be getting on with it though - and getting nearer to achieving what i've always wanted, and doing sw aswell of course - its all so exciting!! xxxxx

I did my degree at Cardiff, but I did a GTP afterwards rather than a PGCE, so I did on-the-job training at my local secondary school. It is definitely rewarding - sometimes just the odd "Thank you Miss" is enough to brighten your day :) xxx

aahh i see!:) I would really rather do a degree in English and then maybe get onto a pgce course - but its just so difficult these days. Due to there being a shortage of jobs, lots of people are jumping on the teaching bandwagon as they dont know what to do with their degrees. So its just so difficult getting onto a PGCE that I am just going to cut out the middle man and do a primary education degree with QTS :) (fingers crossed!) xxxxx

If your heart is definitely set on teaching then that's probably the best way to go. I did my degree in English and Education Studies at a uni which specialises in teaching. So many people applied for the 3 year primary education course, didn't get on but did the Education Studies & Subject Specialism degree like me, with the promise of a PGCE afterwards. Of course, when it came to it, loads of people didn't get places (lost out in favour of people with fashion design degrees and the like?!) and had to look for other options.

Just because of the nature of my uni, I know loads of people who've done PGCE (primary and secondary), and I'm doing mine now in Lifelong Learning (post-16). I think it must be so, so much more difficult to do if you've done a degree with no school placements whatsoever!
