Advice Please. PCOS -Cambridge Diet and Clomid

Hi, Myself and my husband have been trying for a baby for 2 yrs now and with no joy...After several scans and appointments it has been confirmed that I have Polycystic Ovaries and I have seen a fertility specialist who has prescribed me Provera to stimulate ovulation, Clomid to help with the conception and Metformin to help treat the PCOS. I was also advised to loose weight and I have, in the past been very succesfull following the Cambridge Diet programme...it is the only one that works for me. I wonderedif anyone knows if I can follow this programme whilst on the medication?? I am aware that should I become pregnant I would need to stop the diet immediately, but there is risk that I wouldn't know I was pregnant...if this is not suitable can anyone suggest any other type of diet that will have speedy results...I am at a loss...Thanks :sigh:

A low GI diet is recommended for PCOS, there's a good book called the PCOS diet by Collette Harris (it's on Amazon). Good luck with your weight loss :)

Having PCOS my self i found CD gave my weight loss a really good start having never been able to lose weight in the past, - this i believe was down to the very reduced carbohydrates i have since been calorie counting using a very low carb diet with it and the weight is still coming off but i wanted to do lots more exercise hence coming off Cambridge,
I have know people to be on Cambridge diet and fall pregnant and have no problems their is a very good website called fertility friends they have loads of ladies with pcos trying to conceive on their and will be able to help in regards to medication etc
I have taken metformin and clomid in the past , I can assure you losing even 10% of your body weight will really help with ovulating etc
if you don’t want to do Cambridge i would suggest a very low carb diet with loads of good proteins i would avoid red meat as this is also considered not very good for pcos,
Best of luck !

Hey MissBliss
just wanted to say welcome and wish you all the best ttc..
I too have PCOS and had lots of problems ttc... Losing weight does help PCOS for sure.. I wish I would have lost it before now and it probably would have helped me along the way.
I too have used chlomid and metformin..
Good luck and I hope your little miracle comes along soon..

depends when they are wanting to start you on the fertility meds too, if thats say 1 month away CD SS for one month and then move up to a higher plan when ttc?

I think its the ketosis thats the issue with pregnancy, although I could be wrong and more than happy for a CDC to correct me, but there is nothing to stop you following a higher plan when TTC.

hey chuck
i would take the med's lose the weight and then start ttc as your chances at a lower weight are so much better how much do you have to lose - it'll be easier whilst taking metformin as it will help with your insulin resistance
good luck and stick around there are lots of us on here with pcos and lots ttc
good luck
