Alone for a week

My OH is away for a week, and I struggle when alone. I always reach for the takeaway menu or nip to the shop and buy crisps or sweets.

Mostly it's because I hate cooking for one, but also I don't have him around to see how much rubbish I am eating, his being around stops my binges.

Any suggestions? I'm in a new city so don't have any friends I can see, and I've an injury so can't go out for a run.

Thanks all

Do you go to group? Try and remember that when you think of reaching for something bad, it always helps me as I think ''I'll have to admit to everyone what I've eaten'' or if you don't go to group, or even if you do, tell your OH your going to tell him how much you loose that week, then although he isn't there to see you eat rubbish, you know that if you gain he will know about it.

Try and make some low syn treats or even better syn free ones like syn free rice pudding and egg custards so you can go for them and maybe set up a treat box for the week with lots of nice things (that are within your syn allowance) so that you know you have treats.

Make sure you have lots to keep you occupied as well, maybe buy some nice bath bombs and treat yourself to some nice relaxing baths, have some films or TV series that you wouldn't normally watch with him to hand.

I like the idea of telling him how much I lose!

Not going to group at the moment as pretty skint, but will use the forum.

Treat box will be made up tonight :)

You could take pictures of everything you eat, and i mean everything and show it to your other half when he gets home!! It will make you think twice as you know he will still see what you are eating!! Xx

I know what you mean. Although my parents aren't following SW, they pretty much eat whatever I eat for tea, with me doing the cooking. Last week they were away in Sweden, and I was home alone (apart from my brother, who I had to cook seperate meals for as he won't touch anything that resembles fruit/veg). I was quite nervous at first, and thought cooking for 1 person would be a bit of a pain, but it was fine, and I managed to lose 2lbs this week!

For me, the key is planning. Could you draw up a weekly meal planner? Decide what you're going to have for tea each night, and stick to it - step away from the takeaway menus. There are lots of things that are convient for 1 person - I made things like:

- Warburtons Square Wrap pizzas
- Quorn Peppered Steak with SW chips & veg/salad
- A big batch of superfree soup that I could just heat and eat as I fancied

...etc etc etc.

Also, do stuff to take your mind off boredom eating. If you're alone, you might find yourself bored and just eating for the sake of eating. Do something to keep you busy. Have a nice relaxing bubblebath, paint your nails, read a magazine, etc.

Stay focused, and you can do it. Just because your OH is away doesn't mean this week is any different to normal. Don't let one week ruin all of your hard work.

Will do a menu and snack plan tonight, and will try and do long slow walks with the dog to keep me busy.

Need to look up these square pizza things, not tried them yet :)

You could report to us each day on this thread! Post the pictures of what you eat here. :)

You could buy some salad bowls and cooked fish/ meats? Boil a couple of bags of new potatoes and use them for Salads.

Good luck x

I love that idea!!! Will start that when I get home tonight :)

One of the most important lessons one can learn in life is how to be happy alone. Let's face it, many of us will be on our own at some time or another, and many people (like me) no longer have a partner and live alone permanently. Think about this period of time constructively - think of the things you can get done when you don't have to work around someone else. You are in a new city - go out (if you injury permits) and find out all about it. Go to an art gallery or a museum. Learn something new. Turn out the spare room, tidy up your filing system, read a new book, take up a new hobby, join a club where you can make new friends . . . . and so on.
