I was wondering what expereince anyone might have had as a type 2 diabetic on the LL diet. My doctor told me to keep measuring my BG and if it was low to reduce medication etc. By week 3 by BG was about 5.4 or less in the mornings so I have completely come off my 3 x 500mg Metformin a day. I went to see my GP in week 4 for the medical but got a locum who seemed to think it was ok.( In week 5 now) It seems very quick to have come off all medication. I know it will have to be reviewed when I start eating again but that's months off ! Just wondered how anyone else might have managed diabetes and medication etc while on this diet ? Hi Melissa

I can't speak for LL as I'm a CDC, but we recommend that people with Type II Diabetes have regularly check ups with their Dr, and only come off their medication with strict supervision.

Just to be sure, is it possible for you to have a check up with your regular Dr, just to reassure you that everything is ok?

I think everything is ok. My GP told me at the start to drop off one tablet immediately or my BG would go too low and he explained how to decide whether to reduce my medication further. So i am kind of ok with what's happening. But it's 2 weeks until he is back so I have a while to wait.

I know that nobody else here can tell me what to do medically, I just wondered how things had happened for other diabetics. I mean it's great to have "normal" readings in the morning and I feel GREAT :D but other's experiences would be appreciated :) Melissa x

Hiya
I'm a type II diabetic who has been on CD for six months. Like you, my BG levels dropped dramatically very quickly and I was off my metformin (3000mg per day) within weeks.

My 'big test' (the three month average) came back as 'excellent control' with a reading of 5.2

My diabetic nurse was well impressed although 'she doesn't believe in the Cambridge diet'. That's her perogative of course - doesn't alter the fact it was instrumental in helping reduce my BG levels, blood pressure, cholesterol levels as well as helping me lose 6st 7lb! :D

Hi Debbie,
Good to hear your story of coming off the medication. How fab to have such a low HbA1c ! I am due the whole battery of diabetic check up tests but as I have been doing LL for only 5 weeks I don't suppose they will show the full effects yet, but I guess there will be an improvement.

Congrats on your super weight loss. I have 126 pounds to lose, must go get myself a ticker thing. Have only lost 1 stone and 9 pounds so far but am motivated :) Melissa
