Barb's Up and Down Diary

Hi Barb - Thanks for your encouragement. I've made up my mind. I'm commiting myself to JUDD for 2 wks, then will see how I got on. I've checked out the traineo site (saw you on there! and the JUDDD site.
I will SS on my DD's and eat what I want (within reason on my UD's). Still have mixed feelings about this, but I plan to do this with the Beck's diet Solution - a 6 wk plan which uses CBT techniques which is supposes to work with any weightloss plan. If I'm to keep the weight off - I need to come up with with other ways to cope other than eating, so I hope this book will help.

What's CBT? Good on you for giving it a go, although i must say I think a month would be a fairer trial, but what do I know?!

Great to have another Juddder on board, make sure you add yourself to the Juddders Unite thread!

love

Hi Barb - CBT - cognitive behaviour therapy - changing your eating behaviours by training your brain to 'think like a thin person' or so the book says. Before I started on SS - I was hoping to do LighterLife mainly because of the counselling but wasn't very impressed with the counsellor! SS worked great for me for awhile for losing weight. Since Feb I've been off/on SS - mainly because I get derailed as soon as I get hit with stress/problems so unless I tackle the reasons why I regain the weight and get better coping skills - this effort may go by the wayside as well.
You're right - a month would be a better bet to determine whether this diet is working for me - but alas I still get seduced by the big weight losses I got with SS (but as always seem to forget about the challenges that being on SS was causing). I know the losses won't be as great, but I'm really going to have to work hard at panicing if I 'm not getting the results I expect and abandoning the JUDDD ship on jumping back on SS wagon. So hopefully, the CBT will help me get past my all-or-nothing thinking.

One of the problems i have with SS'ing is hair loss!! Do you have hair loss problems on JUDDDERING??

CBT sounds like a very good idea! I definately think why we eat is an interesting thing. Like today, it's a DD, so I am hungry, hungry, hungry. Yesterday, UD, forgot all about food! Yes I ate but it was not on my mind all the time. In a way I suppose that is how I know I could not do CD, I would be obsessing all the time I think!

As for hairloss, too soon to say I reckon, but so far so good!!!

Morning all! another good DD done and a lb off on the scales. I am weighing and recording every day out of interest but only counting Mondays weight as 'official'! UD today, feeling good, woke early and a bit hungry but other than that feel great. My grandaughters 2nd birthday today so a good day for an UD as I think there will be birthday cake about!
Hope all JUDDDERs have a great day!

Enjoy your UD BArb. Birthday party? So THAT'S why you adjusted your DD / UD pattern! ;)

I think I am going to stick with, Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat Up and Tue, thur and Sun down. It just fits my life. I was just going to go on alternating but fixed days will suit me better. Time will tell, but I think this is organised, which is how I like to be. Most of our socialising is Fri/Sat so that works. Monday can be a bit of a bummer anyway, so thats a good day to be up and sunday tends to be a getting ready for the week ahead day, so no probs downing then. Yes, i think I've got it sorted. I just love all this choice!

Hi Barb

I'm gonna be watching your progress with much interest!! Being an all or nothing kind of girl, this kind of maintenance would suit me down to the ground!!

Not sure if i could do it for weightloss though as i'm too impatient!! However, will keep an open mind as i follow your progress.

You are doing brilliantly! Enjoy the birthday cake!

I know what you mean about the impatience thing Karen but when you analyse it carefully, CD only gives spectacular fast results IF YOU STICK TO IT. It's true that I lost a stone a month for the first six months I was on it, but after months of messing about, I find myself only five stones lighter than I was this time last year.

That averages out at less than half a stone a month!

I could have done that eating this way and not twisted my thinking en route!

It's definitely a case of 'horses for courses' and I'd never trash CD - it's a wonderful plan for those who can stick to it but for me personally, it was too long a path to walk and I needed to find a kinder route.

Also, we've not been doing it long enough to see what the average monthly losses are - it may be that they're not that far adrift from CD anyway :)

Hi

That's a good point RD!! Thing is when you're on CD at the time you think "right, this is it!".

I've been fluctuating around the 10stone mark for about a month now - my goal was 9stone 11lb but i've changed it to 9stone 7lbs. I just want to get there as quickly as possible, my problem is when i'm out with work or on a date i will eat food - can't seem to justify to myself to eat a bar whilst everyone else tucks in to normal food!! :p

I will also do the LL management 12 week course to get my metabolism back to its base line, but i might use this way of eating thereafter.... by then it will be easy to see if it works for you guys....

All the best,

RD, I can hear your twisted thinking smoothing itself! When you put your losses like that it really makes you think. I agree with you about CD, I've never done it and i take my hat off to those who have, but if it works for you then do it. However something i have noticed is that for a lot of people once they start to slip they rarely get the original momentum back. If that happens then better to try a fresh approach than to keep beating yourself up because the plan that worked before doesn't work now.
I don't know what the losses on Juddd will be, according to the website the average loss is 10lbs a month, so I guess some folk lose 4-6lbs and some lose 12-14lbs. I will be very happy if I see 7lb a month and any more than that will be a huge bonus. If I had carried on as I was I would be putting on several pounds a month, not taking them off and I really couldn't bear that anymore!

Thanks Choc, it is going GREAT!
Had a good UD, very busy, so didn't have much time for food till the evening. We went out to our favourite thai restaurant and had a lovely meal and a couple of vats of wine! Yum!
Today, just .75lb heavier than yesterday, so pretty impressed with that. Still weighing and recording everyday and a real pattern is emerging, definately a steady downward trend! I love this diet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is a DD, I just feel so mellow about it. Just spoke to someone at work and she said ' It's Friday tomorrow, shall we have a cake for a treat?' 'Yes' says I in the happy knowledge that it is an UD therefore no probs!
I am not telling many people that I am doing this plan, another bonus as I am not obviously on a diet. I just feel i want to quietly get on with this plan for the rest of my life and it is no biggie! I have told my daughters, Mum and husband but thats it, very unusual for me as normally I want everyone in on it for their support. just don't feel I need it with this plan, I can do one day at a time, easily! Of course it does help that I have all my Judddies to support me!

Hope all Judddies (love that name) have a great day

A very good DD yesterday, 490cals in total and the least hungry day so far. Looking forward to UD today and tomorrow and then DD on Sun ready for Mondays'official' weigh in. Hope to see 1.5-2lbs lost this week, think that is quite possible providing I don't go too mad on my UD's! Very exciting to see the numbers of JB's growing, we really are giving this plan a good testing between us.

Your enthusiasm is going from strength to strength Barb - it's so great to see!

This is so obviously 'THE' plan for you - slots right in with your lifestyle seamlessly!

Yes, it will vary, and I guess a lot is to do with how much weight to have to lose in the first place. I haven't seen such a high monthly loss amongst those I've watched though and remember that the website is referring to those doing the diet for just 8 weeks. Sorry, not meaning to be a wet blanket, just want people to be realistic.

You may well lose 10lbs per month, you may not. I've known a number of people who are only losing 1-2lbs a month, but a few others that have almost reached the stone mark in the same amount of time.

Interesting what you mentioned about hot flushes Barb. I know that what I eat has a big influence on mine. I still had them throughout CD (when sirt1 should also be in action), but they were fewer.

A meal high in fat sents them off again badly.

Anyway. As I say, don't want to be a wet blanket. For a lot of people even 1-2lbs a month is fantastic if they are doing a diet that works so well into their lives...and has the added health benefits. Lose even more is the icing on the cake :)

I do agree that if you hop on and off a VLCD, the Judddering can be a great alternative :)

Thanks Karion, it's always good to hear your balanced view. I am not expecting miracles, 1-2lbs a week /4+lbs per month would be fine. i just want to do this till it's done and I really think I can. I know the speed of it would not suit those who want fast results and until I have at least 6 weeks done I can't honestly judge the effectiveness of it. What I can say is that it is already altering my attitude to eating and that has to be good!

And I hope you get the 10lbs+ per month, because you really deserve it.

Even if you don't, you have found the perfect plan for you. Wonderful to be able to be a non-dieter on days isn't it :)
