ProPoints Behind Blue Eyes

  1. Hi all,

I figured since I'm new to the site and new to ProPoints, I might keep a bit of a diary, hopefully it'll help me keep focused and stay on track.

I'm starting on ProPoints today, a controversial day to start, I admit, but I feel ready, so I'm going for it. I joined WeightWatchers online a few days ago so I'm all set to go.

I am 25 and have over ten stone to lose. I've been fat my whole life and have a lot of issues relating to body image and self-confidence, but I've promised myself that I am not going to be fat and miserable when I turn 30. No way.

For me, this is an exercise in learning to eat properly and look after my body. I've been stuck in a yo-yo dieting cycle for the last few years and have ended up bigger than what I started, with a terrible comfort eating habit and a strong aversion to the gym.

In the past, I've been far too hard on myself and have had that typical "all-or-nothing" attitude, which meant I started a diet on Monday morning, ate a biscuit or a chocolate bar on Monday afternoon and jacked the diet in for the rest of the week. Having recently read several psychology-based diet books, I've realised that dieting isn't about all-or-nothing or perfection. It's about keeping at it and knowing that you can only do your best. I guess that's why I chose Weight Watchers, there's that flexibility to have a bit of chocolate or a few biscuits and it not make a difference.

So here goes, the first day of the rest of my life... here's to losing weight, gaining confidence, eating well, developing a healthy attitude to food, picking up good habits and learning that it's ok to make mistakes.

I don't expect that it will be easy, but I'm doing this for me, so any hard work is worth it. After all, anything that is worth having is worth fighting for.

Hey! Well done for taking the first step - I'm sure you won't regret it :) I think you are going into this journey with a very positive attitude, and I think that's the most crucial thing :)

Good luck and I shall be following your journey xxx
  4. Thanks! :)
I don't think I'll regret it. I'm kinda in this for the long term and am viewing it as a learning experience and a journey. It's not just about losing weight, it's about improving my whole life, from being able to fit into nicer clothes to protecting my health.

I'm probably going to need a lot of help and encouragement along the way though.

Good luck :) I think Weight Watchers is great for that, you can't sustain an "all" approach.
  6. Well this weekend didn't exactly go as planned. With a lot of stress (writing an assignment for my MA) and not sleeping very well at the moment, I wound up comfort eating a lot.
I'm not looking backwards though... today is going to be a good day.
