Best way to travel to Heathrow airport ?

I have a suprise 50th birthday break to NY booked for my hubby in August

Have to travel from Heathrow which is quite a trip from Telford. Am looking at the best way to get there.

Anyone got any suggestions, who may have done before ?

Flight leaves 4pm.

I'd always opt for driving but if that's not an option maybe get a train to London and then the Heathrow Express from there?? The Heathrow express runs every 20 mins and takes 20 mins to get there from either Paddington or Waterloo (can't remember which one). The other option is to get the Picadilly line Tube from London to Heathrow but it's about an hours journey due to the number of stops!!

Alternative try the train to Slough if you can get a direct one there and then get a cab over to Heathrow?????

If you are going to drive try the AA routefinder and will take you through the journey and you can print it off.
