Breastfeeding and Slimming World

i lost 2lbs and got my 1.5stone award and bronze body magic! I LOVE SHINY STICKERS!!!

Hi, welcome to the newbies and apologies for my lack of posting.

Honey, hugs for your loss of your heb, hit me hard to, I'm down to 2 a day now, anymore and I syn them or I sts which is frustrating.

Fern, any day now! I miss my bump, this year has flown by and babies grow so quickly. Especially suck in those newborn days they pass in a fleeting moment.

All this talk of lovely homebirths! I wanted one 2nd time around, my consultant said no, large platelets at the time, she was right I had a pph. But I'm always slightly jealous of those who get to have a homebirth, I hate the hospital bit.

Bubbs 1st birthday is rapidly approaching and I feel so proud and so sad all at once, this is my last bubba and her 1st year is slipping away from me.

Hi ladies, I wondered if I could join you - I'm a first time mum to a 3 month old and joined SW last Wednesday in an attempt to shift the 60lb ( ) I put on during my pregnancy that amazingly hasn't 'melted away' with breastfeeding as I'd hoped!!

I've not had my first weigh in yet but am generally doing EE and am a bit nervous as I seem to be eating A LOT and am dubious as to whether I'm actually going to lose anything at all!

My LO is exclusively breast fed and I've been told I can have 6 HEs instead of the usual 1 x A and 1 x B but am really struggling to get anywhere near this many into my diet on a daily basis - the most I've managed so far is 4!! TBH I really doubt I would lose any weight at all if I ate that many! I take a calcium supplement though and try to eat plenty of free calcium enriched foods, so hopefully that will suffice!

Anyway, we will see how successful it's been at my first weigh in on Wednesday evening - wish me luck!

Welcome Eek! You dont have to worry, you will lose weight on the plan trust me. In my sig all my weight losses were on the full HEs for breastfeeding. I ate all 6 everyday!

You WILL lose eating the full 6 HEs, believe me! And if you dont eat at least 4 of them you may find you dont lose weight because you arent giving your body as much as it needs to sustain both you and baby.

as long as you are sticking like GLUE to the 1/3 super free food at every meal, you will be doing just fine. A good idea if you get some time is to make veg packed soups and freeze them in portions, that way if your baby has a clingy day (as both of mine did for the first YEAR of their lives) then you can just grab a soup, shove it in the micro and you can have yourself a healthy lunch/dinner with your superfree already in it so no need to worry if you've had enough. You can also put superspeed foods such as lentils, pulses and beans in to speed and boost your weightloss - if the very thought of eating those foods makes you go "bleugh" once they are blended you honestly cannot tell they are in there!! Spice it up with paprika, chilli or curry powder, bit of garlic mmmmmm :)

If you go to the receipes section you can get some awesome ideas :)

Thanks guys!
Coincidentally I've just made a big vat of superfree/superspeed soup - how spooky! Hopefully that will be nice and easy for me to grab and heat up at lunchtimes!!

Hi Girls!

My bubba is 7 months old and I have been back at SW for about 3 months now but my head is all over the place with it. I haven't really been sticking to it.

I am going to rejoing tomorrow and just wandered as far as syns go, how many should I have been having now? I usually just have 10 but should that be 15?

Hi Skinnyminny! You can have anything between 5 and 15, just go with whatever suits you. Some days you'll need more and other days you'll need less. My old consultant said to try to stick to 10 a day to allow for mistakes like syn miscalculations and I've always pretty much stuck to that.

Great minds etc :p

I'm very dull and try plan my syns - i find i really enjoy them more if its something bigger than wasting them a bit here and there.

Oooh TattooedMammy, what do you use your syns on?

Just to say, if any of you ladies with a baby under 6 months fancy donating some of your breastmilk to local milk banks.

UKAMB - Become a Donor

I've just passed all the screening and have the first few filled bottles in my freezer :)

Aw my babe's over 6 months old... Why can't you donate if your baby's over 6 months, do you know?

Well, just had the first weigh in and .... I lost 2lb! Am pleased (although I would have liked more as I stuck to the plan religiously! Ah, never satisfied eh?!)
Am going to stick at it and reassure myself that slow and steady is best for both me and LO!! I'm also going to make a real effort to have at least 4 HEs as recommended by Tattooedmammy ...

It's because the nutritional content of the milk changes when the baby gets to 6 months.

Thing is I knew nothing about milk donation, I only saw a poster by chance when I was at midwife appointment.

Alex is still having days where he grazes and days where he feeds and feeds and feeds so milk supply still over the shop. So an average day where he's 'grazing' I pump to empty my boobs as they get engorged and I end up with 8-16oz spare at the end of the day and my freezer can only hold so much and I'd hate to dump it. So it goes to the special baby unit now :) and it's only an additional 30 minutes out of my day whilst watching tele, so hardly a struggle :)

What's more of a struggle is trying to keep on track with SW. I had a great day today and husband brought home Caramel Nibbles. Ah well :(

hi girls..

so iv had rough first week. Penny is a perfect baby and hardly fusses but BF has been hard going, and after calling out the MW every day because she was going 6 hrs between feeds and wouldnt feed properly we were readmitted, medically she was at no risk as she only lost 4oz, but we were at breaking point and i was so determined to stick with it.. i got TONES of help which was amazing.. but 4 specialists later and all the mw's on the ward trying they couldnt work out why i could BF like a prop from the left but she wouldnt do anything on the right- she would latch but never consistantly feed, work herself up so much she would have to be syringe fed hand expressed milk to calm her and it was soul destroying.. wev been sent home and have to soley feed from the left and express from the right.. however iv managed to get her on twice this morn for 10 mins and then 5 with no tears on the right boob.. so im really hoping all is not lost and we might still crack it with no expressing needed. Im producing SO much milk i could have fed the entire ward!!

havnt weighed myself, i just dont know where the times gone.. having also not expected to actually give birth on due day, i didnt weigh myself since 38 wks so only have a rough idea of what i was pre-pop lol... tbh im just eating what i can, when i can... shes surgically attached to me!! but sleeping well.. usually 4 hrs, feed.. another 4 hrs.. bargain!! love her sooo much, she is my everything.

Penny Rose Bishop 011.jpg

Penny Rose Bishop, born August 19th 2011 bang on due date, at 1:26pm.. 4.5 hours in established labour, no pain relief ) .. weighing 7lbs 8.5oz.. and no stitchs, tears or grazes. Adore her

Thanks for that Lexie, it would have come in really handy in the first few months when I was producing an insane amount of milk!! I didn't get on with expressing at all though, I bought the Avent electric pump and seriously I'd get like half an oz after almost an hour pumping! I don't know if I was/is doing something wrong... I get a WHOLE lot more hand expressing (usually just to mix with baby rice) so now my pump is sitting there gathering dust... What a waste! I gotta say though, pumping to reduce engorgement will make you produce even more milk, probably why you got 16oz OMG

Fernie I'm so sorry you've found BFing hard going. I think most women have one superboob and one normal one, mine's my right lol. It seems to always have so much milk and Rosie seems to like it better. I feed her off both breasts but she seems to suck deeper and more thoroughly on the right (probably why it's always engorged!). The first three months of her life she prefered the left so maybe they just have different preferences at different times lol. It was brilliant advice you got about feeding Penny on the left and express from the right. As she develops, she'll start to suck more efficiently so hang in there, it'll absolutely get better! Sounds like it already is :D Well done hun! BFing is the BEST thing I could have done for us, I think it's made me very intuitive to Rosie's needs, my breasts actually tingle just before she cries in another room  it's pretty freaky. DH says it's like she's got a remote control to my body and my heart aww :)

Oh and don't worry too much about SW, as I'm sure you know now all you can think about right now is your precious little girl.

Just out of interest is Penny short for Penelope?
