I do an alternative version of bubble & squeek that I got from a Carol Vorderman recipe book a while back if that helps.
Basically steam potatoes, cabbage or other leafy greens and spinach. When they are all nearly cooked mash them together in a big dish - I then sprinkle a little bit of cheese on top but that's optional - and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until its browned on top.
Not sure how "normal" bubble & squeek is made as this is the only version I've ever had but I love it and really low in points as its mainly veggies. Hope that helps
