Hi guys, I am new to slimming world this week

my main concern is can you eat too much of the free food. DOes the diet work best if you eat more or less free food, if i eat less and less of it will i lose more, or should you eat as much a you like, I have a big appetite and am worried I will gain weight my first week if i eat large meals jsut because they are sin free

The free food is there to be used from unlimited. BUT, only eat if you are hungry, do not eat just because it is free. You also need to make sure a 1/3 of your plate is superfree foods (fruit or unstarchy vegetables).

no not if you are doing green only extra easy, however you should still try to get as much superfree as you can into your day.

    Katoof,

I agree with Britmum. It is helpful to have 1/3 superfree even if you're doing green (where it is not essential). I suggest putting the superfree on your plate first then adding the other stuff. I eat large portions and haven't restricted myself since doing SW. I sometimes worry about portion sizes (because I want to get to a stage where I eat 'normal' sized meals) but actually it is starting to happen naturally and (some of the time !) now I tend to eat slightly smaller portions. Try to trust the plan and eat the stuff that you like eating (which is on the plan) rather than what you think you should be eating. It really does work !

And if you have any questions, post a food diary. People here are so helpful and will point out what you are doing right and what you could do a bit better.

Good luck and stick with it.

The reason free food can be eaten unlimited is simply because it is low in calories and will fill you up. So to eat 'too much', you would have to be eating way beyond the point of being full.

If there were a limit to how much free food we can eat it would have a limit, but it doesn't!

I think it is possible to overdo the 'free' foods. My first time around I really slowed my losses by eating far too many muller lights, mugshots and bananas just because I felt 'peckish' (not actually hungry mind you). I would recommend only eating when you're actually hungry and then only eat until you're satisfied, not bursting! Moderation in everything...

I think that when your first starting out the only eating when you're hungry business is very confusing, because I was always hungry.
I started off eating whenever I wanted to and I still lost weight and a few months in I realised that sometimes I was just eating out of habit or mainly because I just love eating - it's my favourite thing to do.

I decided to cut down my portions a tiny bit and to re-think what I considered to be 'snacks', so I no longer allowed myself to have a snack of JPot with beans or anything that could be considered as a meal instead of a snack. My snacks became a babybel light, or a yogurt, or a piece of scan bran cake or a hard boiled egg etc
I also found that if I ate balanced main meals i.e. protein/carbs/veg I felt more satisfied and understood the difference between being hungry and being satisfied.

As you're starting out though first of all I'd recommend just trusting the plan and using free as free, you really can eat a lot of free foods.

thanks for all the advice guys. I just got worried as I would feel awful going to my second week and putting on weight.

I will post a food diary on here for my last two days and keep it going through he next few weeks!

I know what you mean! Im new to SW and I too have a large appetite!
I would say that when I eat pasta, I could easily eat 200grams. I have made my own pasta sauces , normally tomato based and sin free.
In your honest opinion, is 200g just rediculous? I know that i will start to reduce my appetite with weight loss but I dont want to scupper everything in the first week!

In my honest opinion, 200g isn't ridiculous - it's a large portion, sure, but it's a lower calorie density food and if that's what you need to fill you up (along with your big wodge of Super Free), then that's what it takes. I've seen me have that much in a meal since I've been on plan (I'm self-limiting more now, I just get too full to eat that much, but at the start, sure).
