Hi does anyone know the syn value for chips. I really fancy some from my works canteen, there probably like what you get from asda cafe.

Thanks, kerry

These should give you a general idea:

Potatoes, chips, frozen, oven, 100g cooked 4
Potatoes, chips, fish & chip shop, 227g serving 17½
Potatoes, chips, frozen, microwave, 100g cooked 7
Fish & Chip Shops, Chips, average portion, 227g standard 17½
Fish & Chip Shops, Chips, average portion, 340g large 26
Potatoes, chips, frozen, thin cut, deep fried, 100g 14

Potatoes, chips, frozen, straight cut, deep fried, 100g
Potatoes, chips, homemade, average thickness, deep fried, 100g 5

The average size of one medium potato is about 250g, so I'd guess around 15 syns upwards for a regular portion.

Is a raw potato the same weight as a cooked one? I imagine cooked ones are lighter.

Also it depends on if the canteen lady is in a good mood. Our likes me and gives me an extra scoop lol. Sad as it is one day I'll work out the syns per say 5 chips, as currently those 5 I steal from OH's plate are free!

I think the numbers about the weight of an average chippy portion give a good enough idea " 227g standard; 340g large"
