what are your thoughts if you are supposed to be on SS ? I am about to start (again having been on cd for 3 months back in 2010) but not at this time of year, I am highly motivated and will see it through to the end this time but my thoughts are to eat my normal christmas dinner & dessert (but less of it & not 20 plates of left overs over the following 2 days) also wont be buying my normal xmas treats that I eat myself ie ferrero rocher, toffifees, thortons continental, matchmakers etc.

xmas is the only day of the year we have ALL the trimmings and I generally start looking forward to it in about .. oh June

Also I drink alcohol ONCE per year.. hogmany along with the hogmany nibbles (hubby is tea total & I just don't bother myself any other time) I still intend to do this (so will need to be off ss that day & prob new years day although dinner then is less of an occasion compared to xmas dinner in our house.

We never really go out to social occasions etc so I don't need to have "planned" days off, its just these 2 times at over the festive period that I am already thinking about.

Does everyone else stick to SS ?

im planning on staying on SS over christmas, my last day on SS is the 26th dec, so 27th i will be on step 2 for a week so we have planned to have a step 2 meal for "christmas dinner" but 2 days later! Since it will be my first real food that day im sure it will feel like im eating a full xmas dinner with all the trimmings!

I was wondering the same. I'm on SS+, so hope to be able to have the meat and veg (maybe a little more than the poxy 80g) and skip the potatoes and trimmings. I think the key is, if you go off plan, get back on it the next day. We are only human, so we don't want it to feel like a prison sentence, but just keep temptation out of the way, or cut it right back if you have kids or visitors. I'm sure our CDC can help and advise. x

As will I!! I love baking goodies around Christmas to take to relatives but as this year it's just the two of us (yyaaayyyy) then I plan on farming them out to our flat mates family when they go on Christmas Eve. I want to be a bit sensible though so I am going to only leave small amounts for us. E.g. if I make a batch of pork and cranberry sausage rolls I won't be dividing it 50/50, we will get a couple for my wife and I and our flat mates family gets the rest. My wife looked a little grumpy when I told her this but she will get over it!!

This might be a good time to make some of the step 2 snacks I have been looking at so we don't go straight for the crisps and bombay mix: Spicy Oven-Roasted Chickpeas Recipe - CHOW (one example - minus the oil and less salt). My thoughts are to make something like this with a mixture of lentils, beans and chickpeas as they all go crunchy and you have your own version of bombay mix!!

Another thing would be to do something like root vegetable mash...so carrots, swede, celeriac....! But roast potatos and pigs in blankets are an absolute MUST!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the idea of making a Bombay mix, such a good idea. Any other thoughts, I'd be interested to hear them. I might be kidding myself about being good, but I've got to try ;-)

Resurrecting this thread for Christmas 2014!

What are your plans heading towards the big day/festive period?

I usually plan all food in advance, have a massively full fridge/freezer and we are still eating it up two weeks later! This year, though unsure of our plans on the day, I won't be doing the same thing. I will be getting some tasty food in, but know that if it's there - I am likely to eat it, so - no Christmas cheese this year! :-(

xx

This is a very good question. I was thinking about this the other day. Last Christmas I gained a stone in like 3 weeks (mental)!! I'm nearly at goal/maintaining and don't want to gain loads again this year. My plan is to spend Christmas day at the inlaws and not buy any treats for home, the only time I will have treats is at other peoples house, that way I will not mindlessly eat like I noramlly do at Christmas. We normally go mad, spending like £300 in total and there's only 2 of us, we always throw so much away and we even still have bits left from last Christmas, baileys, christmas pud, bucks fizz and I'm sure I've seen after eights lurking in the cupboard LOL. We are also saving as we are getting married next year so will save us money too :)

Liz, this is literally IDENTICAL to me (even your start weight's not a million miles away from mine.) I too usually go crazy filling the fridge up ("It's Christmas, we must have lots of food to eat" - end up eating most of it myself and feeling awful.)

When are you getting married next year? I'm in May and lots of pennies left to save! :)

I know, I looked at your starts and we have the same goal weight too!!! You should be at/near goal goal by Christmas. There's no way I could ss at Christmas but hopefully my plan works, I don't mind a small gain but not a stone again please!!!

I'm getting married in Cyprus in October. Whereabouts are you getting married? X

Total loss - 3 stone 7lb :)

I'm hoping to be into step 2 by Christmas and then have Christmas lunch off to enjoy - though being careful not to eat too many carbs, and just fill up on meat and veg. I'm ok with a couple of lbs but will be back onto it Boxing Day. I can't let the festivities ruin my progress!

I'm getting married at my family church in Herefordshire - can't believe how quickly it seems to be coming round! Cyprus will be incredible!

I'm having christmas day and boxing day off, but with smaller portions (as after being on SS for 12 weeks I really don't think I'll be able to consume much!!) and ease up on the carbs i.e not as many roast potatoes (although those will be hard to resist!!)

Ooh most of you are being good over Christmas - I plan to just have a Christmas day meal but the full works (whether I'll be able to eat it is another question!) but then not buy any goodies at all and not eat when I go other people's houses. I'm not giving up my mum's Christmas dinner for anyone or anything! xx

Clareb123 - I'm too having Christmas dinner on Christmas day. That will be too hard not to. I will probably be stuffed but I can't miss that, my CDC said she wouldn't expect me to stick to shakes on xmas day:)

Ooh good glad it's not just me!! I'm doing CD so I'm happier with myself and life in general and not having Christmas Day lunch will most certainly not make me happy!!!
