Day 1 - for the last time!

Well hubby and I went along to the CD counsellor last night and picked up our packs and are going for it. I am back up to 15 stones 5lbs (although that was with clothes and period), normally around 15 on my scales, meaning I've gone from 16 stones 2lbs, to 12 stones 6lbs (with LL) and back up to 15 stones 5lbs in less than a year - god knows what that must do to your body, but I know what it did to my mind!

I've done 2.5 litres of water today so far (I really struggle with water, never manage much more than 3 litres) and had two shakes, one at 10am and one at 2pm then I'll have my last one around 6pm, but think I might save some of it to have with coffee later.

Feeling okay atm - a little hungry but not too bad!!

Question for you??

:) Hi piper,

I started SSing on Friday and so far have put on 5lbs, not TOTM or anything, same scales, same time of morning, etc.

After reading that you got under 13 stone with LL but put the weight back on, it is making me consider giving the whole thing up.

In a rut at the moment, I have told family & friends and they think I am foolish for "starving" myself and now seeing that you put the weight back on after coming off LL, I think I will pack it in.

Any advice?

Hi beentheredonethat - sorry to hear that you feel like giving up.

My advice would be - don't!

It's not uncommon to put weight on in the first few days - your body will be retaining water like mad as it adjusts into ketosis and the increase in your fluid intake. You need to give it time and look at your weekly losses - then you'll have a better idea of what your average loss will be.

It's the same for any diet. If you lose weight, but not your longterm eating habits, then you will put the weight back on. End of.

But it doesn't have to be that way - there are plenty of people here (me included) who have not put all the weight back on - although it's a struggle not to relapse into old bad habits. It's something I have to fight every day - some days, I win, some days I lose - but 8 months on, I'm still a sizse 12, which I consider a resounding success seeing as how I've been 16-19 1/2 stone for 40 years!

Keep on trying - come on here and have a moan when it gets tough but don't give up. You'll be so glad you didn't when you are thin!

I'm not sure why you've gained on CD - some of the counsellors may be able to help.

I would say to you though dont give up. Had I been eating normally and healthily, I wouldn't have gained the weight back. I might have gained a half stone or so to stabilize but I definitely wouldn't have gained back three. I dont think I was ready mentally for the loss and have eaten so much junk since I started food again. I'd not have any meals and just eat chocolate and junk - thats why I regained. My head is in a much better place now and thats why I believe it'll work this time, because I'm ready to eat 'normally' ie three meals a day and the odd treat, rather than treats all day with the odd meal.

To do a diet like this, you have to be ready for the change in all areas. I wanted to be thin, but wasn't ready to make the long term committment. This time I am - and at least I'm starting a stone lighter than I was last time.

Keep at it - it is worth it.

Thanks Lynne,

I am seeing my CDC on Thursday and will see what the "official" weigh in is before making a decision. Maybe I am not ready for this. But I am doing everything right, maybe my body isn't ready.

Anyway will see on Thursday.

Good luck, I am sure you will be 3 stone lighter by Christmas, I am just one of the unlucky ones.

This is going to make me seem very weird but I'll risk it anyway

I have to say that I am very excited for you  :D

I have had weigh ins where I have gained in the past and I hadn't cheated or wavered in any way shape or form and boy was I depressed :(

All I can say is that in my experience if you follow the diet then there is no way possible for you not to be losing fat and bodyweight in the medium term. If you are taking in a deficit of calories then your body has to be making up the different from your glycogen or fat reserves even if the scales tell you otherwise. ;)

Unfortunately standard scales do not reflect the make up of your body and so if you are retaining water all you need to remember is that when your body is ready to part with the water, just think of all that weight you'll be peeing out :D

It is well worth taking measurement of everything not just the obvious measurements to compare against because when your weight reaches a plateaux or you gain as you and I have both done then you may just surprise yourself at just howm many inches come off - don't ask me how but that is my experience :)

The amount of 'laymen' that made the most bizarre ill informed comments was amazing. Of coarse the VLCD is a specialist field and so those that aren't in the know haven't got a clue what they are banging on about and I hope you can find the stregnth to make allowances for this because the comments don't reflect the reality ;)

Please stick with this because if you don't, you are robbing yourself of the fantastic feeling when you stand on the scales having lost the water and see one of the most dramatic losses ever! I wish I could bottle that feeling 'cause I'd make a fortune. :D

I gained in my 3rd week on LL and if I had given up then I wouldn't now be a comfortable size 12 and maintaining my weight so please stick with it :)

I have come across water retention when the person was not drinking enough water and this will also make the body retain water.

It seems to be about getting it right.

This really is a tough diet and your head has to be in the right place to do it.

And when it is, the results are fantastic.

If you do decide to come off LL, remember you still have to introduce carbs gradually, you really can't go straight into high carb/sugars as it will overfill your glycogen store...it is the same thing body builders do before a competition to plump them out.

Day 2 and so far so good. Last night was a little bit of a struggle because I wanted to eat at night, but hubby and I cuddled up and watched a DVD instead. Its so much easier having him at home in the evenings (he was in London working for 2.5 years). I've had my first 1.5 litre bottle of water and am going to have my first shake soon. I am going out shopping with two friends today, and we're going for dinner, but Im prepared with my Banana tetrapack so wish me luck! I did think I could just have protein but then figured if I do that I'll keep doing it, so am staying committed!

Good Luck Lynne - stick in there!! You can do it - especially with the support of hubby!!
The first time out for a meal and not eating is the hardest - it gets easier after that!! Honest - I have been out loads and just sat with my water and black coffee.
Are you still going to the CDC in New Deer? I go to the one in Ellon - Teresa.

Yup the one in New Deer - the lady in Ellon actually was a client of the one in ND and he sponsored her to start up! New Deer is far closer for me though.
