Dinkie Dawnies Dubious Diary of Downsizing, Deflation, and Debauchery

Evening ladies AND Sarah!!! ;)

Didn't quite get the day I had originally planned! I decided to see if I could see the skin doctor today so went up to the surgery first thing. The receptionist was lovely and said he was at the other surgery and she would book me in for 10.20. Anyway I went back to see him and he said its a form of the cold sore virus but on my cheek. Apparently it's very rare to get it there...just my luck! And like cold sores, it's likely to recur, particularly if I get stressed or under the weather. I also have rosacea which is another chronic condition! So basically I have to finish the course of tablets I'm on and then go onto a lower dose antibiotic ufn. If I get the tingling feeling that I'm about to have a recurrence, I'm to get a doctors appointment the same day so they can start me on the antiviral meds again. So not the best of news but I suppose there's a lot worse I could have. It's happened 3 times now. The first was a couple of weeks before Gwyn and I got married and I was really stressed, the second was a few months ago when I was working all hours and not sleeping, and now this time which has occurred within a couple of days of this stupid family problem. I haven't slept properly for days because of it, and I can't seem to shake off this sense that I feel I'm always breathing in and not out again, like I'm hyped up and ready to explode! So it does appear that this condition is definitely stress related. But how on earth do u DEstress???

Decided to go see my mum after the appointment which was great as I hadn't seen her for a while. We had a coffee and a natter and a good old moan lol! On the way home I called into Asda and picked a few bits up so it was gone 2 by the time I got home. Couldn't eat then as I'd got pills to take so I got busy making Daniel some low protein veg pasties from one of his recipe books. I'm useless at making pastry and Dans lp pastry is rather fragile, so they took me nearly 3 hours to make but I was pleased with how they turned out :) I split the pastry mix into two and added curry powder to one and dried parsley to the other, just to cheer them up a bit! Anyway, Daniel LOVED them so it was all worth while! And I've got loads to put in the freezer for another day :)

Forgot to say that when I came home, a neighbours cat trotted into the house with me! Suki went mad! Thought I brought her a playmate!

Hi Dawn

Well it's good that the dr knows what is causing the problems but it doesn't sound the best prognosis. If it is going to be affected by stress then think you should look at ways to destress that you respond to, whether it be a piece of music or someone talking to you that you listen to (there are some free mind pods on iPhone which are meant to help destress), or write what you are stressing onto a piece of paper and then identify what you personally can do about it, maybe talking to someone else so sharing your worries, going for a walk/swim/ exercise to release happy endorphins....

... I don't know exactly what works for you but it would seem that you can't have your face swelling every time you're stressing. I'm the biggest worrier so I get this. I also get what I should do which is to say is this my problem
To be worrying about, is there anything I can do to change the outcome? But it's easier said than done.

Glad you had a nice time with your mum and those pasties look fab mmm

Look after yourself now xxx

Thank you Penny x

Theres some very good advice in your post and i really appreciate that. I'm normally someone who handles stress well...or at least I THOUGHT I was. It's funny how your body can let you down.

You're right, I need to find a coping mechanism for dealing with things. I will look into it. X

Today I think we'll have to go food shopping. I don't really want to as I hate going out looking like this but it's not fair to expect Gwyn to do it on his own. So I'll keep my head down and keep my glasses on and just grin and bear it.

Still need to write those Christmas cards too!

Evening Dawn,

Unfortunately we can all seem to cope with events to the outside world, but unfortunately, our bodies say otherwise! xx

Love the look of the Low protein pasties?....which means what?

If I see you out there, am I allowed to point and stare?

I'm sorry - that's my rare form of tourettes again.

When what I'm supposed to say is "Oh dear, poor you, can I do anything?",
instead the inappropriate always comes out.

It just proves I'm not meant to be "nice".
Which will come as a massive surprise to you, I'm sure!

Hello Dawn, hope the face is better.

I see my two girls are at it again so that means all is normal in the world lol !!!

I haven't had time to catch up yet as things have been manic for me for a few weeks, haven't even posted in my own diary yet.

Any news of Steve.....................I remember that at one time you said you were in touch with him now and again. I miss the cheeky chappy.

Of course u are sis! And then I can give u a playful sisterly clout round the head!!! ;)

Good to see normal service is resumed on here lol :)

Evening Dawn,

Daniel has a metabolic disorder called phenylketonuria which means his body can't cope with too much of a particular protein. He needs enough to grow and develop normally but any excess makes a beeline for his brain and causes brain damage. So he's on a measured daily allowance of foods containing protein. He's not allowed to eat meat, chicken, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, bread etc. So we make his own bread with low protein flour, and get lots of products like pasta, milk, egg replacer etc on prescription.

Makes our sw diet seem pretty easy by comparison doesn't it lol?!!

No niceness PLEASE sis! Makes me very uncomfortable and seems somewhat...unnatural!

You keep right on with the not niceness...it's so comforting and...nice! ;)

Hello Mumsie x

Face is showing signs of improvement today, finally! It's my last day on all the meds today so I hope it doesn't flare up again. I start a permanent course of antibiotics tomorrow so hope they do the trick.

As for your errant son...he's fine! In fact he's in Florida with his other Dad as we speak! He's still as rude as ever I'm afraid...his texts always start with 'morning Tubbs'! But then I call him Fat Boy...brothers and sisters eh?!!! ;)

I got these pics from him today of his lunch in Florida...just what u want to see when you're on a diet!

Omg! How brilliant is that!!! Here I am writing to you Mumsie and you PHONE me!!! What an amazing surprise!!! And so lovely to chat to you! It's been ages, thank you so much x You've made my day xxx

*****************************************

So weigh in tonight and I stayed the same. Disappointed as I've been really good but as both Gwyn and Mumsie said, I've been quite poorly and on lots of tablets so maybe that made a difference. Anyway I'll try and have a better week this week, although we're out for a meal tomorrow night. Just hoping I can cover my face up ok.

Right I'm off to have my hot choc and hi fi bar! Catch u later ladies x

Evening Dawnie - good to see that your sister is still as un-nice as ever ! :8855:

If your face problem is akin to cold sores (herpes virus) has the doctor prescribed a topical Acyclovir cream?
Zovirax is the trade-marked name everyone knows but there are generic unbranded ones that are a lot cheaper to buy.

I suffer badly with cold sores - I get them all over my lips, up and on my nose and lower face and down onto my chin and neck.
The thing that brings them out with me is actually sun and salt air OR cold and salt air. Great eh for a sailor!!!

Acyclovir cream is applied as soon as the tingling starts. If applied quickly enough it can slow down the outbreak.
It obviously doesn't cure it - nothing cures a virus - but it does help curtail the symptoms.
Might be worth having a chat with the doc about whether it would be any use.

Hi Bev, and thank you for that x it was actually Acyclovir that I was on all last week. But I had it in the form of tablets, 5 a day, because it was so severe. I took them alongside 4 Oxytetracycine antibiotic tablets a day in order to kill any infection. And now I'm on Lymecycline, one a day, as some sort of preventative measure. The acyclovir definitely did the trick IMO and I only wish they'd put me on it straight away last time as I've no doubts it would've stopped it much quicker.
The doctor said creams were of no use in my case and it wound need to be hit hard with drugs instead. He also said that as soon as I get that tingling feeling on my face, I'm to go in and get the Acyclovir and Ocytetracycline straight away. I'm actually going to ask if I can keep a supply of both drugs at home so I have them to hand the moment I need them. Would be just my luck to fall ill on a Friday night when the docs is closed lol!

Thanks for thinking of me Bev. I will still ask about the cream as maybe it would be a good standby if they won't let me have the tablets? Yours sound like a very severe case too. Mine is quite close to my eyes and affects them quite badly ... Makes them feel sore and gritty and very difficult to open in the mornings. Still I'm on the mend now so just need to stay stress free and I should be ok lol xxx

Afternoon Dawnie. I really feel for you - cold sores are horrid.
Yes mine can be quite bad. The worst episode I ever had was when we went sailing over New Year and it was literally freezing.
We had ice on the decks and in the rigging but the sun came out during the day even though it was still very cold and we had a fantastic time.
BUT . . . I ended up with both lips literally covered in them. Plus they went all the way up from my top lip up my nose, and all the way down from my bottom lip onto my chin and neck. They were so sore and, as you say, once they'd cracked they looked horrendous. I was full of scabs for about 10 days.
Stress sometimes brings them out with me too - although since moving to Spain I've not had this problem. Far too chilled out now :8855:
I now get them quite a lot in the summer when I spend the day by the sea and forget to put sun block on my lips and face.
Bleddy nuisance for someone who lives in the sun!

Hey

Don't be disappointed with sts. You haven't been eating much so your body is probably holding on to it. Just relax and sure the weight will come off. Think there is a fair bit of truth in eating more helps you lose weight on SW.

How you feeling? Any nice plans for the weekend?

X

Thank you Penny x I'm feeling pretty good now thanks x Face is still improving :)

However diet has gone out of the window! I knew it would as we were out for a meal last night...pâté starter, mains was gammon, egg, pineapple, chips peas and salad, dessert was toffee ice cream cake with cream, rounded off with a mince pie, glass of wine, and coffee and after eight mint! Ooh I had such a bellyache last night I couldn't sleep! Hardly surprising really lol! And today I'm still in "stuff my face" mode! Seems my plans for the weekend only go as far as what I'm going to eat next!

Ooh yes I can see that would be a bit of a problem for u Bev! X

I can't believe just how serious they can be! Just hoping I can get a decent time now without any flare ups. Strange that there was nearly 9 years between my first and second bouts but only 3 months between the second and third. Anyway I'm going to try and think positive and also keep my stress levels down. Back to work Monday so we'll see how long it lasts lol!

**********************************************************************************************************************************************

So, not much point in logging today's food as I've eaten so much I can't remember it all anyway!

But I've had a nice day, did a bit of housework and then wrote my Christmas cards out. Wrapped the last of the presents up too and put them under the tree so it's looking lovely now :)

No plans for tomorrow yet...hopefully another restful day before facing work again!

Evening Dawn, and bloomin' heck after reading your post about Daniel's 'diet' , it makes my hubby's 'coeliac' one dwarf in comparison!, but as you say, makes SW simple in comparison!

Morning Dawn
