You don't have to have them. They are there to ensure you get sufficient calcium or fibre in your diet there's no point having them if you don't want or like them.
From what I understand the calcium in HEA aids weight loss. There are lots of reports about calcium being good for weight loss not sure what other foods you could use as a substitute.
Love my HEXs, always have at least 28g of cheese, usually on pasta for lunch. Oats on my fruit with a muller light for breakfast and then some kind of scan bran cake or cereal bar or more oats or meat/potato portion!
