Don't you just hate it when....

...you've just has a really crap lunch.

I had to use up a bag of vegetables but I'm at work so haven't got much in to have with it. Carrots, broccoli and cauliflower steamed in the microwave with salt and pepper on. MMMMMMM, Gordon Ramsey, eat your heart out!!!

*writes note to at LEAST buy gravy granules for work*

Hubby goes and does the food shop, and comes back minus the onions, mushrooms, pork loin and cabbage you requested but brings back choccie biscuits, jelly beans, turkish delight, carrot cake and honey roast peanuts. Cheers darling!!!!

I got another one...

DYJHIW

you go to the dole to sign on, the only way to get an affordable gym pass, only to be told that you are earning £1 too much to get JSA- even though you're on £60 a week- not exactly earning a mint ffs.

Then to be told that if you were 25 you would be entitled to JSA (I'm 15 months too young)

Because, totally, the cost of living does go up once you turn 25- NOT.

I really give up. I looked at the free classes on the NHS- the only one I can do, that is still running, is the c 2 5k, but they're oversubscribed.

I *could* get a gym pass off them- but I'm apparently in the wrong postcode....effers :(

It's ridiculous! I was made redundant in 2009 and I was told I didn't qualify for jsa because I had been a university student and because I was married!

It was totally unfair that because I had chosen to further my education and that I had fallen in love I got nothing even though I had worked every summer and part time in uni yet some people seem to come out of school and get money given to them by the bucket load.

The system sucks!

Are you married to my Paul too?? He was all proud of himself last night for doing the online shop, I am not kidding when I tell you his efforts consisted of: chocolate biscuit things (rocky, kitkat etc) x 4 packs
With 5- 9 bars a pack,
Crisps x18 pkts
Cheesecakes small x3
White bread
Coke large and small bottles
4x ready meals (I can have one so that's ok).
Ice cream
And The Sun newspaper!
There was more but that's all I can remember!!!!
Luckily I had added a few little bits. The total was £96!
I still had to add chicken portions, mince, rice, veg!
He seems to think eating chocolate instead of meals and being skinny is healthy!

I'm thinking of swapping him for a puppy!

Omg what is wrong with them?! Mine has the same mentality, he thinks a bit of veg alongside a diet predominantly made up of cheese, sweets, white bread, sausages, pizza and breaded chicken is balanced!!

I just made a big salad for us all for lunch, me and daughters tucked in, he made his into a sandwich with white bread, butter and crisps!!

I do agree that the system sucks, and I do think its very unfair that Little Fluterrby does not qualify for JSA.

However, I do not agree that people in receipt of benefits get 'bucket loads'. Based on the evidence of what people are actually entitled to. I believe you may be mistaken if you think that this is actually the case, despite what the daily mail says.

Just going on my experience kingleds. When I worked in a bank some people on benefits were raking in double my monthly wage and they were getting houses for £60 a week and paying no council tax.

I know that doesn't apply to everyone on benefits and I never implied that it did but the system is universally not working and its letting the majority of people down.

P.s I read the guardian not the daily mail :) and the north Wales chronicle you have to appreciate your free local paper!

I didn't know that going to uni affected the chances of you getting dole?

the married thing...i think makes sense as long as the other half is making a decent wage- but even then sometimes they screw you over.

Because I'm under 25, single, with no kids I am basically told to eff off. which isn't fair at all :(

All I want is financial help with a gym pass. I can cope with my £60 a week. after paying my mum I'm left with £20 a week- that pays for my SW, phone top ups (£15 a month) and transport to/from places (if I get the train) as well as if I have to fork out for clothes (since I'm shrinking and my clothes are getting too big- I have to pay £8 every few months for a new pair of jeans for example) and if it's someone's bday/special occasion (cards/presents etc)

basically £32.50 a month is not doable on my wage. £14.25 a month would be difficult but I would have found a way around it, that's definitely more affordable.

It's stupid!

And really- I feel so disheartened- it makes me just want to give up full stop. Going the gym, or going to classes was more more to me than exercising- yeah, we can do that for free by going for a walk. But going to classes would help me with my anxiety- get me used to being around people. It would help with my confidence.

Of course, using decent equipment would help with toning up, I have horrendous saggy skin in places, and no amount of sit ups are going to help with that!

But I've basically been told to put up with it- which is making me even more depressed and I just don't want to go out! Whats the point, right?

On that note- eff it- I'm going to bed- I really can't cope with this day anymore :(

See its interesting, cos i think that says more about how much you were being paid, rather than the benefits that unemployed people get.

An Example: I my sisters husband has been unemployed for 3 years & my sister is full time carer for her disabled daugther. As a result they are entitled to jsa, income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit, child support, disability living allowance at the highest rate, plus the mobility component, carers allowance, and the older kids get free school meals.
Basically, i defy anyone to claim more than my sister in benefits (legally).

I am always having to bail her out, paying the gas bill, paying the phone bill, buying food, buying the kids clothes. I've done the maths on her benefits, helped her budget. It just plain doesn't go far enough,

I doubt any system would please all the people all of the time & work for 100% of people, but i am proud of the fact we have one in the first place.

No not my Paul then, he would have made a crisp sarnie!

If the school/college term has not officially ended you are still considered a student and not entitled to financial support unless you study for something like less than 12 hours a week....

....or something.

I hadn't been a student for over a year when I was made redundant, apparently it was something to do with how much ni I had paid which wasn't as much as a person in full time employment for a full year as opposed to me who had worked 3 months full time 9 months part time.

But then another student friend got jsa, housing benefit and council tax so I think it was the double whammy of student and married and the system couldn't cope with someone who had done so much at just 22! My hubby was only on minimum wage at the time and it barely covered our bills never mind living costs. Luckily I was only out of work 2 weeks or we would have been in real dire straights.

TBH that example I gave applied to when I went to Uni (many many years ago.....) so it might not apply now. If there is one thing I can't pretend to get my head around it's benefits, having never claimed anything other than JSA for about 8 weeks.

Sorry, I can't offer any more help

The people who get the most from benefits are those on DLA and I wouldn't begrudge them a penny of it, it may look alot but when you factor in extra costs, If the person with a disability has continence issues then the laundry bill alone is huge, having to wash everything on a boil wash every day, at LEAST once a day, means that bedlinen needs to be replaced every three months, extras like bed pads cost another £60 a year, extra equipment like personal protection equipment (gloves, aprons, special disposal bags), then fuel costs for the car they HAVE to use, car parking isn't free at hospitals, there may be sterilisation equipment needed, an adapted teaspoon costs £10!!! For ONE!
Mouth swabs are 10p each, don't envy what people have unless you're prepared to go through what they have.

Well I was on 21k a year so average £1500 ish per month. This girl was getting £2500 a month in all her benefits she was a single mum but both kids were full time school age but if I was her getting £2500 a month in benefits I wouldn't work either! That's where I think the system is failing, unless your a carer or on disability living allowance where its impossible for you to work and you need as much benefits as a person in full time employment. But if your just getting benefits until your able to find a job (which is obviously hard in the current economy) I don't think you should get more money in benefits than you would in full time employment because then there is no incentive to go back to work. (like I said I'm not putting everyone in the same boat not everyone gets more in benefits than they would in work but some do and that's where the system needs to be fixed)

I think the benefits system is a great thing but some things need an overhaul.

People on DLA haven't been mentioned until my newest post below yours and if you read it I say in the post they need all the benefits they get. I also work as a support worker and specialist equipment is extremely pricey! We have a young lad who has the full helmet with plastic faceguard, I couldn't believe how expensive they were he fell back during a seizure and it snapped clean in two so he had to have a new one. It cost a small fortune!
