Early start to NY resolution - want to join me?

Oh Nic you sound totally commited! And very grounded. I'm sure you will get to your goal.Let us know how it's going.

Ha! Well it's now 12.30 am and I'm in bed on my laptop feeling slightly tipsy after one too many glasses of wine tonight which in turn led to a curry and some Milk Tray! Commited my a**e!!! That run tomorrow is going to be painful!!!

hello ladies! it's my birthday!! so i intend to do nothing today!! and i went out to a dead posh restaurant last night - i had scallops, cockles and clams cooked in butter, belly of pork with roast beetroot, caramel cheesecake AND a big wadge of birthday cake!! And champagne and red wine to wash it down! And i don't regret any of it! I got my stone this week and as much as i'd like to keep it - sometimes other things are more fun! Back on plan today tho even if there's no running....might see how i feel later....

Morning Nic - wow your loss is absolutely incredible! You must feel so empowered to have got so far!

Good weekend everyone?

:birthday: Becce! Enjoy your day!

Hi Beccy, nice to meet you and happy birthday!!! Sounds like you had a lovely meal last night, my mouth was watering just reading your post!

Well I did my run today and amazingly it went really well?! Ran quite easily and did my best time yet! Very pleased :) Only one nagging problem which I'm hoping one of you ladies might be able to help me with.
My achilles is sore again after the run - right leg as it always is. Do you think I need to get new trainers? When I look at my shoes for the right foot I always have uneven wear on them. The outside heel is worn down more than the inside heel and the inside edge (near ball of feet) is worn down too. Any ideas???
I live in a very remote part of the country so am nowhere near any specialist sport shops either.

What's everyone up to today then?

Hi Beccy -- Happy Birthday!:553:

Nic, Maybe you should see a podiatrist. If sounds as if you might need an orthodic insert for your shoe. My sister had a similar problem.

MM

If your trainers are more than 6 months old you need to change them. It does sound as though an corrective insole would be a good idea. Your GP should be able to refer you to have one made at the local hospital. I've worn them for years as I'm somewhat knock Kneed which pushes my weight out onto the outside of my heel. I can get away without my insoles when trainers are new, but as soon as the padding starts to compress I get ankle pain.

Thanks for that ladies. Well I've looked into this quite extensively now and it seems I underpronate due to having high arches which means my feet are not absorbing the shock every time my foot hits the road. This will explain my shinsplints in the past too. It seems I need running shoes with 'extra cushioning' so after much research I'm going for the Asics Cummulus 2 which seem to come out top. Hopefully this will sort it out!
How is everyone? Badminton then rowing for me straight after work, then on to the pub as I'm off tomorrow!

Hi Ladies,

I get tired just reading your posts. lol I'll be trying a new class tomorrow and hope to do a little home based exercise tonight.

MM

Hello everyone, quick update. I have the flu so diet and more importantly exercise is at a standstill. Will log on again when I am feeling better. Back off to bed. No fire festival for me tonight :-( x

Oh no! SL that's tragic news - that sounded like a fab night! Sorry to hear you're crook. Well after being laid low with galloping green monkey disease i managed to pick up the next bug that came my way - a nasty chesty cold - so i've done nowt this week...and that on top of the big birthday cake...half a pound on for me....

Please someone - post some good news and fab achievements! xx

Hello everyone, sorry to hear there's a few of you with the lurgy! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Well exercise wise everything going pretty well did 3/4 hr badminton then 3/4 hr rowing on Monday.
Tuesday went on a 12 mile hill walk which was lovely, then yesterday did body pump for an hour then a mile on the treadmill. Was supposed to do an hour of aerobics before body pump but walked out as I wasn't enjoying it. Too full and I just don't think it's for me to be honest. I had all good intentions of going for a 3 mile run this morning but when I got out of bed I could hardly walk as my sciatica had flared up. Feeling better now but couldn't bear any weight on my left foot this morning. Oh well I suppose today will just have to be a rest day!

Get well soon SL. I see from our news you had a Yorkshire boy in the procession!

I can't get my wii on the tv (I'll get OH to look at all the connections) So as I got the Davina Fit dvd from Lovefilm I decided to do the 30 min aerobic section, AND I DID IT! Can't believe I managed the whole thing in one go. I shall attempt the kick box one tomorrow! The ab section was hard!

Go you! Did you enjoy it? I'll bet you felt good once you'd got through it though whether you enjoyed it or not!!!

I did actually Nic! I haven't done an aerobics dvd in months! I didn't even need oxygen when I finished! Oh and the trouble with the Wii was the batteries in the remote

Still croaky this end - but fab to hear some good efforts!

Judimac - is this a new hair cut in the new pic too? I'd say from memory you're looking slimmer round the face for sure!

I had my hair cut the other day. I don't think it's a good photo but it's a fair likeness! I only have 1 chin now! Have you tried grating fresh ginger into a cup, soaking in boiling water for 5 mins then strain and add a tsp of honey. Very soothing, and even better with a tot of whiskey in it!

Well I've just done the 30 min kickfit section of DF. I really quite enjoyed it. I'm not stiff as such from yesterday, but I could feel my quads when I stretched. The abs again were a really good workout, but to be honest EASA and TBL work me alot harder, which is why I suppose I can cope with DF. It makes a change but I'd soon get bored.Lets see what else I can hire from Lovefilm!

Hey Nic - I think I have the same problem and I also use Asics as a correction. Their trainers are fabulous, never let me down.
Well done judimac, you'll be buff in no time!

I had a good day today - went to my first running event this time round, a 12 miler no less. I've run over 14 miles before so finishing wasn't too much of a problem but as a part of race ettequate I decided not to wear my mp3 player, which worried me as I have never run more than 9 miles without it.
However... on the day things were relatively fine, I just kept saying positive things to myself. Normally it takes me about 6 miles to feel comfortable at the 'race pace', just as I hit this mark in the race I fell forwards at the bottom of a hill slicing my hand open (EVERYWHERE the blood went!) but tried to 'run it off', telling the marshall I was fine regardless of the tears going down my face :p
I originally aimed to finish the race in 2 hours, but made a delightful 1:44. Wasn't greeted with smiles though - I was covered in so much blood that the race marshall wanted to call paramedics thinking my wrist was cut!
All and all I don't think I could have done better for a rookie :D

Hi cateka, I'm hoping they do the trick - well done on your race time too. Running 12 miles seems a little out of reach to me as I only do 3 mile runs! Haven't been well for a few days ladies so been unable to post or exercise! Looking forward to badminton tonight to get back into the swing of things though and maybe I'll do a bit of rowing but I don't want to push it too far too soon.

Hey girls. I think we have all been ill! I had the awful flu - even my teeth hurt, though would recommend that Beechams Flu Plus hot berry drink as the 1000mg of paracetamol in it was the only thing that got me out of bed!

I now have a chest infection and a bad cough but I went to power circuits at the gym tonight and took it slow. Feel so much better for it but didn't do the second class I had planned as I was scared I would overdo it. Lost a few pounds over the last week or so but no idea how that happened - I've still been eating as normal!

We have been snowed in here for days now and I can't get the car out the drive so at least it has stopped me trying to get out for a run before I am 100% again! The schools were all shut on Friday and again today so I am just waiting to hear whether they will be shut tomorrow or not. Think I'll just get a phonecall in the morning if at all. Think it will be the bus to work for me though!

I popped on here every now and then when I was tempted by the sweet stuff. I very nearly ate the whole of a tray of lemon drizzle cake but I looked on here and was shamed by all your exercise, so thanks gals! Talk soon x
