Based on the fact that you can get premixed products in the form of tetra briks why can I not make up a shake product and take it to work with me in a thermos (cold not hot)?

I'm sure there is probably a very simple explanation for why you should eat the products within 15 minutes of making them but if it's because the vits/mins are water soluble aren't they still "in" the mixed product especially if you are mixing them with cold water and not hot.

Please can someone help clear up my confusion

I think someone - (probably the fabulous KD!) said that it was because the thickening agents in the shake start to break down after 15 minutes so it can go a bit icky looking but the nutrients should be the same as long as it's not been heated.

I guess it's a bit like baby milk, it breaks down as it is left!

I know when I do a shake, within 5 mins it starts to look like it's breaking down as I get a layer of foam across the top

TBH I would just buy the tetras easier lol

Yes, that's right. The thickeners deteriorate. It's still perfectly safe though. Can have soup in a thermos if you want and the brand new random texture excites :D
