EE Salt & Chilli Chips (Syn Free)

Seen a splendid recipe for these which Im going to try tonight but wondered if anyone can give me any tips on cooking syn free chips??

Everyones photos always look delicious but my chips come out quite white all the time - they do taste alright but wondered if there are any tips out there?

Do you parboil your potatoes first?

I chop up my chips, parboil them, then drain off water. Spray them with fry light while they're still in pan. Put lid back on, and give them a good shake. This makes the edges "rough".

Then onto a hot tray in oven, but tbh mine never came out like pics. Still tasty though

I've an airfryer these days, they come out darker from that.

My chips have only ever worked when I put them 8 mins in the microwave first, sprayed with frylight to stop sticking and resprayed when going in oven slightly, parboiling following recipe times doesn't ever seem to work for me for some reason. Then they go on the top shelf of the oven for 10-15 mins. I add the seasoning when putting them in the oven too and they turn out great They'll need turning halfway through in the oven so they cook evenly aswell.

I never parboil my SW Chips. Just put them through the chipper or cut into wedges, spray with Frylite and sprinkle on the seasonings then straight in the oven. Quite hot, for about 30 minutes. Shake/turn halfway through. They're the best thing

If your chips aren't browning / crisping maybe you need to turn the oven temperature up?

I always use Maris Piper potatoes, when you par boil, drain and then roughen them up by putting the lid on and shaking the pot they always end up nice and crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. I use a Breville Halo and add chip seasoning or paprika 5 mins before the end to give them a little kick
