Hi. There's a lot of negativity around if you're overweight and pregnant, but you don't need to worry. Having a BMI doesn't necessarily mean there will be complications, and remember, if the medics suggest induction at 38 weeks, you are very likely to end up having a C Section, which is pants. If you've not got high BP and don't develop gestational diabeties or pre eclampsia etc. then you're not at any higher risk than anyone else. there's also been loads of crap on the TV about big women having huge babies and the babies getting stuck - shoulder dystocia, this is also, to some extent misleading. The majority of big women have 'normal' sized babies. It's very very rare that a woman grows a baby which won't fit through her pelvis and believe me, your vagina can accomodate a baby, no matter how big it is so long as you are prepared and have a lot of support!
Check out this fantastic website, it really is well worth a look!

Take care. If you need any support at all then please let me know, I'm more than willing to give you my time.

Love and respect.

Hi, this is my first post - yay!

Just want to say congrats on your pregnancy! I know you must be scared but just think how exciting this is. The journey may be hard but the destination is well worth it in the end!

I'm in the pre-planning stages of TTC and I'm mega confused with all the advice I'm receiving from family and friends, what I've been reading in books and online and I just don't know what to do.

I'm seriously overweight and have a long journey ahead of me to get the bulk of the weight off and well I made a decision to refrain from TTC until I lose the weight. I'm unsure if I've made the right decision and its frustrating for my husband as he desperately wants a baby and I'm refusing until I feel physically 'able'. Well that's easier said than done cos I just can't seem to shift the weight and I'm putting myself under a lot of pressure as I'm approaching 37 in a couple of months and feel that I'm getting on (in maternity speak).

So what do I do? Do I try to lose some weight then TTC or should I just TTC and run the risks? We don't even know if we're able to have children and I'm worried that by the time I'm ready, it may be too late.

So I understand that you're excited on one hand and really nervous on another about being PG at your weight.

The things I worry about are the comments from Doctors and Nurses if I was to fall PG or if they couldn't scan me properly or just the sheer embarassment of it all.......I worry too much about everything.

Been a while since an update but anyway.

Had to go to the maternity ward to be checked by a consultant because of my weight and now I have lots of various appointments. 1 to speak with the anesthetist about risks and options. Another to have a glucose test to see if I have developed diabetes and about 4 extra scan dates from 7 months on to check the baby isn't getting too big :(.

I've also been to see a specialist midwife about my depression and she has told me that there are anti-depressants that I can have but I've decided not to for the moment.

P.S +8.2lb since my last post :S I did have a Chinese yesterday though so hopefully some of it is water retention

Lis xx

Good luck to you. When i became pregnant with my 1st i was 7st 7. After i had him i was 11st!!!! Then the weight went up and down. By the time i fell pregnant with my 2nd i was already 14st 7. But i tried so carefully not to put weight on as i was so embarassed etc. I did watch what i was doing anyway when i had her i was only 7lbs heavier. But now im 2 n a half stoen heavier 4 years later :( Id defo recommend to watch what u eat when pregant. I just wish someone had told me this 15 years ago when i had my 1st

How you doing Lissy? What's your due date? I think we may be due around about the same time.

I'm due on the 27th of August just over a week after you from the look of our tickers :) I'm not so bad, lots of heartburn at the moment but other than that I'm fine, how about you? Have you found out what you're having? I went for my 2nd scan a couple of weeks ago and was told 95% sure it's a girl :D xx

I'm not doing too well at watching what I'm eating at the moment I know I've put on lots of weight and daren't weigh myself. maybe I will in the morning

if it's going to get you down ditch the scales and just try to be good ((hugs)).
As long as baby is healthy, you can sort your weight out after and breast feeding may well help with that! lol

Sounds like a plan, I weighed today and didn't like the results so I won't be doing it again until the baby is born I think

((Hugs)) good girl! your positive attitude is what will make you a great mum, not how skinny you are!

Congrats on your baby girl!

I didn't find out at the scan we want a surprise. We have 2 girls already so a boy would be nice, but as long as it's healthy I don't mind.

I haven't weighed myself since I found out I was pregnant in December, I can tell I have put on a fair few pounds though. I will worry about that after the baby is born and if need be I will go back on CD.

aw congratulations on your baby girl how nice :)
