Food without the angst - Vegan SW

Well your son is free to come and hack down anything he fancies in my garden!! Bonfire sounds like fun. I suppose you have to think that at least someone was concerned that there was a fire. Although of course it may be a moany soul.
Well done with your food today and a big win with the little piece of chocolate. You are right, that is the sort of habit we all need to aspire to.
Is it you that home educates your son, or do you get help from a tutor? I ask as you mention going to work too? How old is he btw?

We used to home educate our son and daughter, but it turns out that m'boy is on the autistic spectrum and has had BIG mental health difficulties, he has been been hospitalised for nearly a year twice for this :(

Now he is a lot happier but so very very anxious, clinically so, and cannot face school. Oh, home education didn't work once we had the summer of street bullying and my father's death and the death of a few loved animals that tipped him over the edge.

Tbh, he needs contact with other people and I need a break from being responsible for him. We have an outreach tutor once a day for an hour. But he doesn't always manage to see the tutor or finish an hour's lesson. The offer is always there for more if he can do it, at home and he could go to the outreach place they work from, or even a mainstream school ... oh, you have got me on a subject I could type about for hours. We pushed for a SEN statement, but in the end all it said was local mainstream school with support. We thought a residential specialist school would be best and would have fought for that but as m'boy dug his heals in and wouldn't consider the idea we didn't want to waste energy there. A shame though, he responded so well to the peer group and structure in hospital. but then, do we want to bring up a totally institutionised adult?

But if you were to meet him ever it would be on a good day, otherwise you wouldn't meet him, and you wouldn't see any problem with him. An intelligent aware young man who would respond to you like any other young person. Last time I was on a camp with him the man in the tent next to us was surprised to hear he was on the spectrum and this was a person who had professional involvement with many young people, NT and ASD.

This is a lad who rarely manages to see his tutors, or manage to get to medical appts, no way would we have been able to get him to a school he didn't want to go to. He is a big strong 15 year old. this garden scheme is for him to earn extra money and my thoughts behind it - apart from clearing a neglected garden - was that the exercise and fresh air would do him a world of good.

Ah, food. This was my non angsty diary LOL I've not bothered yet and have suddenly worried that actually I'm sinking into the fasting part of my cycle. I will make a point of eating properly today as I think long term having healthy eating patterns will be better for me than doing an almost fruit fast for a couple of days in the interests of losing enough to get into the 16s.

Scrambled tofu and mushrooms would be good.

Hey Micci, sorry for the slow catch up, I haven't been on here since last week, what with the good weather and more to do that there are hours in the day, I haven't managed to come on here.

Sounds like things have been mega busy as usual your end and you have so much on your mind! I think you are doing really well with your food, it's so important for your emotional balance (what with everything else you have to cope with) to not let food be a fear factor. And it sounds like you are definitely having great results with loose clothes etc.

Keep up the good work :):)

I've rambled masses, am avoiding getting down to getting insurance quotes for next year. Wish me luck, this is flipping expensive.

Crikey, that was worth it, I've saved about £100 a month! A couple of years ago I was being quizzed by a friendly sounding insurance person and confessed to having had the car broken into and the contents stolen. I didn't claim, but this incident seems to have gone against me. I'm hoping that it has now timed out of whatever they use to assess the quote. Fingers crossed. My original insurers wanted nearly £200 a month, and got it down to 90.00modd a month when I quizzed them to look for cheaper, confused dot com got it down to about £60. Mind you, it did look a lot cheaper until all the extras got added on.

I've still not eaten anything except fruit and chocolate and have decided I'm really hungry and that I am worth cooking for and sitting down properly at a table in the garden to eat. I've cooked for everyone else and not bothered for me. My turn.

Yes you need to bother with you. Have a lovely evening x

I did in the end, but was too tired to climb up and rummage amongst the stored tins and bits for what I wanted so collapsed with my mushrooms and baked beans with smoked paprika. At least I've had my mushrooms! I've bought 2 lots of them and lost them due to not cooking them quickly enough. I'll have the other half of this punnet today. Suitable food for WI day methinks anyway.

I did it! 3 lbs off and just scraped into the 16s. This is different for me this time round, before when I got to a milestone in the stones, or numbers ending in zero if I was counting in pounds, I would go horribly of course and faff around for weeks not losing. So much so I would change the unit of measurement so the milestones as such were hidden.

Anyway. WOW. slimmer of the week and slimmer of the month. I was surprised to say the least.

((((( Hugs ))))) Your body needs something different. At our group they've been talking about doing 50/50 SF and other foods in a meal. That can count when doing all the days, not just EE. Have you tried that? On your diary you just give what you've eaten, not how much you've had of each item.

I was very tired last night and got silly after a nice healthy meal of tomatoes and courgettes and chick peas. I won't go into details but I think every day has to be synfree with a large percentage of SF fruit and veggies at every meal. How silly can you get? Particularly as I was planning on saving syns for birthday cake next weekend.

I've wondered whether my portion sizes need sorting but I think if I had to start weighing stuff on the plan I would definitely give up. My main meal at tea time could be smaller I suppose. I'm doing green days this week, think I'll stay on green for good, only having the occasional EE. I'm so disheartened. Two days away from weigh in and the scales aren't going to budge downwards for the third week on the trot and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. xx

Portion sizes just should not be an issue. Sw is meant to be 'unlimited' so to think about weighing takes away the whole point. As long as you only eat til satisfied that's fine. I'd say you aren't eating enough in the day - seems very minimal.

Shame about the syns Micci but sometimes we need to kick back. You've done so well. I'm sure of you're good for the week you can have a bit of cake

Yes, eating till satisfied, that's a bit easy to forget for those who eat for reasons other than hunger. I wonder though if it would be worth trying having a LOT of SF separately as a first course so you just about fill up on that so are not so hungry for the rest of the meal?

I do eat until satisfied. My portions are big but I very rarely clear my plate. I'm either eating too little or too much it seems. No ones got the answers. Maybe that's because there is no answers. All in all it's no consolation when I've been 100% on plan but maintained 2 weeks on the trot.
Let's see what Friday brings :) x

You deserve a flipping enormous shift on the scales this week X

I've been busy and eating on plan. Loads of fruit, lunch was courgettes and tomatoes and butternut squash with chickpeas, more fruit and mushy peas soup, nibbles on a dish I cooked for m'boy so will claim no more than 3 syns for that, late night snack of a nectarine and all my HE Bs in the form of a bowl of mini choc weetabix - I've had just under a litre of almond milk in coffee, as a hot drink with cardomen and vanilla and with my weetabix.

There has been a WTF do I do about this scenario in the kitchen. A large and desparate bee was crashing about going from one light to another and bashing itself on the ceiling. No way could I catch it, it was too high and I couldn't think on any suitable gadget. I was afraid it might drop to the floor later still buzzing and attract a curious little kitty. Who would then get stung. I came in the living room to think about it and all has gone quiet. I guess the poor little thing has exhausted itself. I would have fed it sugar water and let it go outside had I been able to catch it.

Micci!!! That is so great, I am pleased for you, well done! It gives you an enourmous boost, doesn't it.

Aw, Lisa, I really feel for you. Over the course of the last few weeks, I have barely lost a pound despite sticking to plan. Portion sizes and control are a funny thing. I think it is important to bear in mind what each food group does for your body. Personally, I focus more on protein plus heaps of raw fruit and veg and have carbs as an added extra. I try to really load up on raw vegetables with every meal, even breakfast. Yes, fruit is super free, but everyone tolerates the quantities of sugar differently and it's so much easier eating a huge amount of melon and banana for example than carrots. Because of the sugar :) So I reckon that a lot of people, not you because I don't know how much of everything you have, focus on fruit with the SF rather than veg or a good balance out of the two.

Yes, Micci, for me it's the things inbetween meals that I know I don't really need that I struggle with. Eating to satisfy something that is not physical hunger is an issue and replacing high fat/high sugar foods with SW friendly foods doesn't really address the problem. Something I have to work on constantly.

I do hope you get a loss, Lisa. Don't forget that the body is not a machine where you put a certain value in and get the same result, like a vending machine. So many things affect our losses that are beyond dietary and lifestyle control. I know it is easier said than done because I know how disheartened I get when I don't see a loss when I should see one. But try and focus on the fact that you have been really good to your body by eating so well and healthily. How much water do you drink? I know my consultant keeps saying that fluid intake does not affect your weight loss, and she keeps saying it every single week. From personal experience, I have to disagree with that, drinking lots of water has definitely helped my losses in the past.

I've done more nibbling on other people's dinners than I would have wanted to as I was hungry and not made enough of an effort for myself to have something tasty and SW suitable. Lots of veg and fruit, but also a fair bit of the Fry's chicken style strips so I will assume I've not banked any syns today.

I did invent a delicious dip today. Liquidised white beans, rinsed with a teeny bit of fresh water added. I seasoned than with smoked paprika, onion granules and garlic with a teeny bit of an Osem mushroom bouillon powder. Yummy, I might do that to take next week to our taster evening/

Bother, I've just lost it big time. Here is the proverbial SW 'line'
