France anyone?

Have any of you experimented with courgette spaghetti or cauliflower rice? I honestly think they are gonna make a huge difference to my weight loss as it means I can do SP without feeling deprived!

Hi, yes, I do both. I like them both, although they are not similar to the 'real' thing! As long as you enjoy them for what they are, then they can be really nice meal parts.

With regard to the many questions as to muller light / fry light / mugshot / pasta'n'sauce / snak-a-jaks / cottage cheese / quote etc subs in France, at first I used to import them each time I went back to the UK, but eventually I stopped doing SW and changed to 5:2 with Primal.

I don't think I'd realised how much I depended on these items when I was doing SW until I got here. When I realised, I wasn't too pleased with myself & so made the change - just my experience, & not suggesting anyone else should do so.

If you read back through the thread, there are various suggestions for some substitutes, faiselle instead of cottage cheese was one I remember, and there are several suggestions for the yogurts. Quorn seems to be a no-go though!

I bought a little spray and fill it up with olive oïl and use it like fry light.

In the evening I eat 2 oranges, 2 yogourts, a cup of tea and it seems to fill me up !! and I keep my syn if I fancy something crunchy like biscuit or bread

What is 5:2 with Primal?

Last night I had some frozen mango pieces with a taille fine yoghurt poured over it and a crunched up snack-a-jack on top. It felt naughty and used up a few Syns.

For dinner I made some home made veggie burgers with a syn free spicy ketchup but was still hungry and had carrots and tuna.

I know things like mugshots aren't a good thing to be reaching for and for a healthy sustainable lifestyle you shouldn't be eating them but it's so handy for when you're hungry!

Is frozen fruit readily available in France?

Wooldy - I'm guessing that you brought the snack a jacks with you from the UK?

Not only am I going to be in France, but I'm also working on a boat where a chef cooks for the guests & crew! I am going to take some fry light and ask him to cook stuff in that (there's only 4 crew, one of which is my partner and the other is healthy anyway so this shouldn't be a problem) but sometimes it's going to be hard to avoid syns!

Breakfast, lunches & snacking will be fine - I can prepare things myself and there's always lots of fresh fruit and veg. Sometimes dinners will be fine but for when it's not I am going to cut out the carb where possible and have cauliflower rice/courgetti to try and at least make it more of an SP meal!

I might combine SW with the 5:2 diet - has anyone tried this?

I'm also going to start couch to 5k, at present I couldn't even run 2 minutes!! Anyone else got into exercise with little experience before hand?

Hi, yes frozen fruit is readily available in all supermarkets.

I did SW with 5:2 for a while, it's do-able, though I sort of got confused wth how to use Hex a & b on the fasting days, so ended up just counting calories on the 2 days, & following SW on the others! Anyway, it worked fine.

Eventually though I swapped to primal (trying to think how best to describe.... Essentially, low sugar / carb, but ok with fat, clean eating. Best described here: Primal Blueprint 101 | Mark's Daily Apple ). Big shock as it is fine to eat fat, which felt wrong, but to be honest, combined with excercise I lost more weight & look more toned than for years, so seems to work for me.

I picked up the snack a jacks at home - but I have been on the look for something in the way of a rice cake like them in France to no avail.

Frozen fruit is everywhere but I cannot stand the bitterness of 'fruits rouges' and dispise sweetner (I omit it completely from my diet) Does anyone have a few tips as I find them so bitter.

Casino do mango chunks so I just buy them.

Ooh yes I love the casino mango chunks!

I get them and sometimes mix them with frozen raspberries - do you find them bitter too?

Angienofrills, I did the couch to 5k programme last year and loved it! I had done literally 0 exercise in years, it was challenging but doable and I got such a high from doing it! My gyneco made me stop when we found out I was expecting. I'm hoping to start again soon, once I've finished my réeducation!

Hi La Parisienne,

That's amazing, I'm really excited to start the programme on Monday. Did you lose weight with it? Were you really able to run 30 minutes by the end?

Hi Everyone,

I bought a glass jar of mussels in Leclerc, "moules apéritif" 350g, do you know if it is free or does it have syns?

Thank you very much

Have a very good week!!

Angienofrills,

I was doing SW too and I had quite good losses anyway but I did still continue to lose while doing it and yes I was able to run 30 minutes although I'm not sure if I covered 5k actually as I jogged rather than ran! Maybe if I'd have been able to continue I'd have gradually built up speed. I hope day 1 week 1 went well! Are you using the NHS podcasts? I found they were really good.

DaisyUK, I've never seen them before but my guess is if they're plain (no oil/cream etc added) that they'd be free.

thank you La Parisienne, I have looked at the label carefully and it says white wine 2.5%!! so I guess it doesn't make it syn free anymore?

I don ' t run I have bad ankles!!but I try to go for 1 (or 2 at week end) brisk 40 minutes walk everyday it has help me with the lose.

this week I have put on 100grammes!!

Good luck to you all!x

Well after getting back to France and binging for 2 days but then a good 3 days, I have lost 1lb this week which I am happy with! That takes me to 9.5lbs off in 4 weeks!

Just heading to intermarche to get some nibbly bits to keep in the fridge to stop me from wanting to snack on bread and cheese!! Not that I have touched them yet which I'm happy about!

Going to try the faisselle to make some dips, and some slimming world hummus, and have crudités in the fridge.

Have also bought almond milk to have with cereal and stocked up on fry light and baked beans and hifi bars!!

Totally loving Ryvita, ham & baked beans. Yum!

Any other low syn treats I should look out for?

Packs of cooked meats - grated carrot and a tin of tuna is a great hunger buster for me lately

havent been doing very well at the moment but have done 3 5k runs this week.

hopefully that'll save me this week

I've got a fondue night tonight! Have lost 3lb since last weekend so really hope it doesn't all creep back on after tonight! Will be super good daytime today and tomorrow and then the new week is starting!

Made a big pot of speed soup to dig into lunchtimes. Also very happy to have found the round slices are bacon which look practically fat free!
