I got back from class tonight and I can't believe how my consultant treats people. I've been to her class a few times before as it's the only one in my area, and it's like she's lost a lot of the skills she had before.

One woman said she wasn't too pleased losing 1/2lb as it was her first week and she'd eaten exactly the same things as her friend who had lost 3.5lbs. The woman was significantly larger than her friend, so my immediate thought was wondering if she was eating enough, as her body would need more calories than her small friend. The consultant just said 'well that's not right, come see me after and we'll work out what you've done wrong'. The she proceeded to go through a massive list of things everyone could be doing wrong (eg, heaped and not level teaspoons) and on each one she was saying things like 'I bet this one's for you Tracey'. If I was that girl I would've been mortified, and wouldn't be too inclined to go back. There was no motivating people who were a bit disappointed at all, no suggestion that their losses would show next week etc.

She even told the newcomers that they had to 'beat' the biggest first week loss of 1stone 1lb at a different class - Brilliant, set those members up for disappointment when they 'only' lose 4 or 5 lbs.

Another lady complained that she had a be good to yourself sandwich which had a syn value of 15.5, wholemeal bread, chicken, salad, mayo - nothing else. I suggested that if she hadn't had her healthy extra's that day, she could count the two slices of bread as 2 healthy B choices, and deduct 12 syns from the total, or 6 syns if she was doing EE for 1 HEB. I got told that was completely wrong!

Anyway, it just made me more determined to open a class of my own when I get nearer target. It's something i've always wanted to do since first starting, but I think my tiny town needs one. The size of the class has halved since she took it over, such a disappointment.

Sadly no other classes in the area, so I'm stuck with her for a while!!

There seems to be a lot of naff consultants about at the moment. Do you need to be at target to become a consultant?

I think you need to be within a few stone of the healthy weight range - I'm a bit far away at the moment!!

God that would drive me up the wall. I am lucky as I go to another class now which is the next village along from me so I have to drive a bit further but my new consultant is great. She never patronises anyone in any way.
My old class was rubbish & like you I came on the internet for a grumble about it but she found the post and threatened to take me to court... She said although she wasnt happy with me she still wanted me to continue coming to class, but I never went back haha xxx

It's only Libel if it's incorrect - what I said is exactly what happened, so even if she saw it I wouldn't be too concerned.

I think I might contact head office, as I think a lot of new members won't stay to class if they see the way she treats people, which is a shame for them, as well as SW as a business.

You have every right to complain, if your paying for a service and it falls short. She should know she will be open to criticism of her methods, its part of her job. She would be laughed out of court, silly woman (her not you).

I joined SW last year, went to a new one close to me, I found the consultant horrendous, she was very brusque and very unprofessional, if it was my business I would have sacked her. I stuck it out for 8 weeks, had a few problems along the way and she kept telling that it was my fault and that I must be doing something wrong. I had a very slow weight loss and since then have found out I have IBS and gynaecological problems, which caused bloatiness etc, is it any wonder I wasnt losing weight. Since leaving the class I have managed to lose a stone and have just signed up to a different class which is even closer to home and the consultant seems very nice, I have got a friend with me this time, safety in numbers and all that. Not everyone is cut out to be a consultant and by the sounds of it some of them can be bad for business

Are there not any other classes around you? Maybe Dedham or even Colchester where I know that there are are a couple of really good classes. But I do understand that you shouldnt have to travel to find a good consultant so a call to head office is definatly a good idea, if they dont get told they cant fix it!

I had this same experience. I am now in Cheshire/North Wales district which has the best weight losses out of any discrict for SW in the whole of the country (or so I was told!) They are very strict about the people they let become consultants and you dont have to be within a certain range at all, my first consultant - who was ACE but quit and joined WW ?!?!?!!!! - had been doing the diet online for a few months, lost 2 stone but was still along way of a healthy range and she became a consultant. You just have to be currently doing/have done the diet thats the only constraint.

I complained about my C from uni, and the answer I got from my C in n.wales was that they are have difficulty recruiting people in that specific area so have to accept who they get as the company want new groups to try and get new people into the plan. Now from people I have spoke to you have to go to training at head office, except the lady who was my C in uni had definately not been on any training in a long time (she had been a C for 10 years!!she was useless! And would give me evils for loosing weight) The only problem is, that the consultants only really seem to get watched when they are new, once they are established, no-one seems to come and check how they are getting on, how the class feel etc and that everything is ok. I am a newly qualified teacher (in maths before you attack my spellings!) and last year I got observed every lesson, this year 4 times termly (12 yearly) and from then on 6 times minimum. This is to check that I am doing my job adiquately (told you couldnt spell!!) and imo if SW was my company I would want to know that the name is being promoted in a possitive way like the way I do as a teacher. Now I realise some of you may think that its a job, why should you get observed but image its you - or you may not have to image - who is having all the comments directed at and you are paying for that privaledge. I do not think that this under any circumstance should happen.

In the future once my job has settled down, I am going to become a C for certain as like teaching, I have seen how badly it can be done and want to try and do it better. They are ALWAYS looking for consultants as they want to open new groups to promote it even more(and it looks good on the stats) The group I went to in uni did have an actual complain about the scales to head office one week, they were weighing everyone up by about 4lbs and most people weighed before class, (i know they shouldnt) but some were really upset that on their record they had put on when they hadnt then lost loads the next week! All that happened was her and the wi lady tried to work out who it was, C said if you have a complain make it to my face and went through who hadnt turned up from previous week to try and pinpoint it!! Was all very rude and *****y. Glad I have a great consultant now. Hope everyone with issues managed to find a resolution, even if its going to a different group nearer work or trying from home although I know I need the group support and no-one should be made to feel like this.

    Sorry reaaaaaaly long post xx

Can you not say something to the consultant or at least probe her with some questions to see how well she really knows the plan lol!

With all these complaints about consultants, we should totally set up our own "satellite groups"! Maybe meet up every month at someone's house, weigh in and have dinner there! We can take turns lol.

I personally think SW are opening so many groups so quickly - I was thinking of going to an opportunity meeting last weekend - but realised that I am far too busy to put the time needed into it.

When I asked my C the location of this meeting she said that there are already 13 SW groups in our area - it must impact on their earnings.

I know that this SHOULD motivate you into being the BEST SW C in the whole area so you can maintain your numbers and/or get a lot of new people through recommendations etc - but it must be quite disheartening to know that you've just paid out quite a sizeable franchise to SW and then they'll open yet another group around the corner from you!

BUT there is STILL no excuse for not knowing the plan inside out - upside down and sideways !

We seem to be hearing about a lot of inadequate consultants.

I think it's a job that your heart really has to be in, and wonder if these are people that started off entheusiastic and good a the job, but have lost interest. After paying out all that money to become a consultant in the first place it must be hard to make the decision to walk away - esp at the moment when jobs aren't so easy to find and money's getting tighter.

I know that I would have loved to be a consultant, but just can't risk putting the small amount of savings we have into it. Maybe part of the problem is that because of this franchise set-up, SW get the people who can afford the money to put up, rather than the BEST person for the job. (That's not to say that there aren't some fantabulous consultants out there BTW. I was really lucky and had a brilliant one who couldn't have been more into her job).

i joined a new group 2 weeks ago, and, the c is lovely, she keeps reminding everyone that she is a group member, a friend of mine became a c last year, and i think she had to put up about£1,000-1,500 for the francise. The last group i went to, the c had quite, a few favs in class, who seemed to get more attention;)

I have recently moved groups for exactly the same reason. I notified head office and it was dealt with as I received apologies from previous consultant.

As others have said if they don't know about it they can't fix it.
