    Hi all x

I REALLY struggle to lose weight even though I stick 100% to whatever I`m doing and am a bit worried that if I try CD I still won`t lose weight

I`m currently trying Xenical and if my WF is right, I still haven`t lost any weight at all (I lose it then gain it then lose it etc etc getting nowhere). I tried Lipotrim last year and lost 17lbs in 4 weeks before having to stop due to side effects. But even with that, I lost in a month what most people were losing in a week :(

On the medical side, I have PCOS and Underactive Thyroid which I guess is the reason I struggle so much :( My Dr has just slightly reduced my Thyroxine so I`m worried that is just going to make it harder

Also, If I do CD, I will do SS+ so what sort of meals would I be eating? I am unable to eat anything with wheat in so am quite limited with some meals.

Oh, And can I still exercise whilst on CD? I generally do the WF and cycling and jogging and want to start swimming again soon. I also have a vibroplate and abdo belt :D

Sorry for such a whingy post, I`m just a bit worried that I will start the diet and still get nowhere. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi hun,

First of all 17lbs in a month is WICKED!! I only lost 14lbs with lipo in a month!!!!

Are u doing SS+ if so u should be ok wheat wise, cause its just white fish or chicken or quorn with some veg.

Last time I did CD i started exersising about 2 weeks after i started but only very very light exersise it depends all on u

    Thanks for the reply xX

I think I just get down about the loss as I put in 100% and don`t lose much compared to others who cheat :( It`s really frustrating. Also when I`m doing exercise on top and they`re not. *whinge*whinge*whinge*

Woop! For the meals only being proteins and veg :D I can deal with that easy :D

I`m used to exercising, So hopefully I can continue as I am :D

Thanks again for the advice Xxxxxxx

If youre aiming for more than 17lbs in a month youre heading for disappointment *HUGS* I think youll find the average on a VLCD is about a stone a month so in actual fact you did brilliantly :)

Yeah I know x I`m just an impatient, Miserable moo  lol

Good luck to you for this week Xxx

Thanks for the hugs and backatya Xxx How are things with you? I took a break from all dieting/exercising and have just recently come back. Hope ur ok x

17lbs a month would do me IF I could get that sort of loss every month *whinge* lol Actually, About 9-10lbs a month would do me as long as it was consistant.

I`m going away in October to another Twilight Convention and would like to lose the weight before then. I have another 4st to lose according to my Dr  But I`m making my goals a stone at a time so that it doesn`t seem too daunting.

Hope you`re enjoying your bank holiday weekend Xxxx

Hi hun, I know how you feel about not having as good a loss as those who cheat. For the past month or so my body has shut down and I'm losing at a rate of 1 or 2lbs a week. No one can explain this or tell me how to get bigger losses. I don't have PCOS and my thyroid function is normal. There's no medical explanation for it. But I'm sticking with CD because I know it works and I will lose eventually, I'm frustrated at the moment, but if I switched to another diet, I'd be out of control before I know it.

I need to see it through to the end with CD. Unless of course the weightloss stops altogether in which case I'll have to re-evaluate the situation. Last time I did CD I had regular monthly losses of about 14lbs which is what I'd aim for if I was you. It's what's expected on a vlcd. Any more than that is a bonus. I'd be happy with 7lbs a month right now. Good luck!!

Sorry to hear you`re struggling at the moment :( *hugs* I know how upsetting that is when you`re sticking to things 100%

I hope this is just a blip and all of a sudden you`ll have a huge loss to make up for it :D

Good luck hun, Keep me informed how you get on Xxxxxxx

I'm sure it is just a blip, I have every faith in this diet and I'm sure it's just a plateau. It's scientifically impossible to be living off 500 cals a day and not lose weight. It'll even out eventually.

    Hi Lise

Ok I can answer some of your questions from a thyroid etc point of view. I TOTALLY understand the frustration of an under active thyroid and everyone else eating way more than you do and nowhere near as much exercise and your body still letting you down. I've done metformin, xenical, low gi diet to name but a few - just about every diet you can mention its a case of been there done that. I was also misdiagnosed with PCOS initially as well so have done all the diet recommendations for that too with no luck.

Last year I got so fed up with the endos refusing to listen to me about my thyroid and blaming my weight for everything and deciding I must have metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. I couldn't get through to them that my weight was a symptom NOT the cause. So at that stage I decided the only way to stop them using my weight as a reason to ignore me was if I lost the weight and took the plunge with CD.

I lost 37lbs in I think it was 10 weeks. It absolutely fell off me like nothing I've ever done and I felt better than I'd felt in years while I was on it. This was all before I'd been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was on no medication whatsoever so the reduction in your meds shouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately I did put 20lbs back on after I stopped CD - even when I was only on 1000 cals a day and exercising 5 times a week - but that was because I wasn't being treated and my thyroid symptoms seemed to have come out more. Now that I'm finally on T3 meds I've started CD again last week on SS+ and at my first weigh in I was down 7lbs and I'm feeling better healthwise again.

The only two things I would say is that VLCDs do have an impact on your T3 level and are known to supress it - its odd I feel better on it as its my T3 that is too low already but I'm guessing its the minerals in it that have an effect on me. You will probably want to get your levels checked after about 6 weeks to see whether your meds need adjusting because of that and you definitely want to talk to your doctor before you go on it to check that its not a problem based on whatever your current thyroid levels are.

The second thing - being disappointed with 17lbs in a month means that you are pushing yourself too hard to lose the weight. As everyone else has said 14lbs a month is what most people would expect until they get down to lower weights when it slows down. I'm surprised that other people on lipotrim were losing more than that but in reality you have an illness that means your body doesn't work like everyone else and unfortunately its one of those things you will have to accept as you won't lose as much as other people. The other thing to be realistic about is the fact that maintaining won't be as easy for you as it is for other people so you need to think carefully about your goal weight and making sure its one you can maintain in view of the way your body does work.

It sucks I know but on CD your thyroid definitely won't stop you losing the weight so at least it is coming off at whatever rate your body dictates.

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

Just read that back and realised it could be read as kind of condescending or judgemental - DEFINITELY not meant that way and more to say don't be so hard on yourself because to lose that much with thyroid is an amazing achievement - hope that comes through :)

I identify with everything you are saying with the under active thyrois issues. I hate the fact that if anyone followed my eating and lifestyle they would be skinny and i have to hardly eat and exercise my butt off just to stay fat. I wanted it to be someone's fault so that I could punch them! alas there is nothing I can do about it. I did lipotrim in January ,I wanted to loose about 20lbs, I lost 12 lb in the first week, or should I say 'weak' I felt bloody awful, headache and tired , grumpy and dizzy. I did the re feed. I tried keeping my weight off with healthy eating and exercise , but it came bouncing back on. This time i decided to to CD as it is more flexible. I still have the weakness and headache, but am going to go up to next step, 810 ,tomorrow . I don't want to keep this perpetual yoyo going.
For anyone on thyroxine ask your doctor / endo if liothyronine would help. I have been much better since taking both meds together.

What is liothyronine and what does it do?

I was on 250mcg of thyroxine (T4)per day for years and feeling like poo. I am in BUPA so asked my GP to refer me to an Endocrinologist. I had several blood tests and what they established was that my body doesn't turn thyroxine into the active hormone (T3) that is needed to feed the cells in my body. I take T3 and T4 together now. I am feeling much better on this combination. Basically most people are fine on Thyroxine, but if your body doesn;t convert it properly you might as well not bother taking it. I was on the maximum dose and it didn't really work. My blood results are much better now. Have a look on google , it may enlighten you! I think the treatment is expensive for GP's so they are reluctant to prescribe. Good luck x

Oh! I will ask my Dr about that when I see her next week. I`m on 200mg usually but the Dr said it was "slightly high" and wants to reduce it to 175mg but I feel awful on that so she has agreed to let me alternate it between the days (200 one day, 175 the next etc) and I go back in 2-3 months to get it checked.

I have no idea what levels are what tbh. They always just say high or (usually) low. When I was pg, They had a go at me for not taking it at all even tho I was as my levels were so low (on 200mg)

Thanks again for the advice xXx
