Have an appointment to ask for Xenical

Hi everyone.
I've been thinking of going for xenical for a while as I am (obviously) overweight, and always seem to lose my motivation during diets (as no-one else will know if i cheat!). Once off a diet I invariably end up bigger then when I started.

My thoughts are that with the prospects of horrible side affects linked to eating the wrong foods on xenical, I would be using it as a deterrent to help me stay on the straight and narrow.

In preparation I have started following a WW plan to help me control my portion size and have started noting the fat percentage in food - trying to stay in the 3-5% bracket.
I have lost 3lb in the last week and have an appointment booked to see the dr on Monday.

I have a very conservative doctor who doesn't seem to favour 'radical' methods as he likes to put it, but I have come to the end of the line and need something to keep me on track to continue losing weight. I need something which will keep me on track, and I cannot allow myself to fail yet another diet.

Can anyone let me know if I have to do anything prior to being allowed xenical on the nhs? or if anyone has any tips on talking stubborn doctors round to the idea?

Cheers

It really depends on your Dr.... I went to my Dr to ask him for Xenical and any other weight loss help he could provide and he was all too happy to help me in any way he could. I think you need to show that you're dedicated and willing to do this.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

Hi Coffee Bean!
My Dr has the same attitude as yours and wouldn't let me try Xenical untill I had proven I was serious about changing my diet so I was told to go back to see him again when I had lost 5lbs.
I lost the 5lbs, went back 2 weeks later and then he was happy to prescribe it to me :)

Good luck and please let us know what happens!

A lot og Gp's will want to see that you have already comitted to dieting before prescribing, as has already been said, In wich case they will tell you to come back when lost x or in x weeks to see how much lost.
Mine was happy to prescribe straight away but had me back for 1st check after a week to ensure was losing and ok on the meds. Now is monthly appointments.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thank you everyone.
Its good to know what to expect. I'd be quite happy to lose more weight before being prescribed the drugs but just don't want to be told a straight 'no!'
Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow & I'll let you all know how I get on x x

I got it!
Luckily it was a locum doctor on instead of my usual one and was extremely supportive.
He's prescribed 3 months supply and I need to lose 5% of my body weight to stay on the treatment past the 3 months (which I think is the norm).
However, when I opened the prescription bag to familiarise myself with the instructions and have a good old read, and I only have 12 tablets in the box and a note saying they owe me the rest!
I'm working away from home this week so don't actually know when I'm going to be able to go in and collect them but I'll have to figure something out as my pharmacy is only open 9-4 when most of us are in work. I just wish they'd have told me they could only give me 4 days before giving me the bag. They didn't even include instructions with them! Good thing I've done my research about what to expect!
I took my first tablet an hour ago, and even though I've been really focussed with my food all week, I'm incredibly nervous about having an 'accident' whilst staying in a hotel!
Here's to focussed weightloss and sensible food choices - Lets hope I can achieve the excellent results that many of you are enjoying on xenical

Hey! That's great news! :)

Hopefully the pharmacy placed an order today so you should have the rest in a day or two.

I also worried about the side effects, infact I'm sure everyone does but I've been taking it for 3 weeks now and have not had any problems at all.
Good luck and keep us updated on how you are doing:)

I had difficulty getting my tablets too. According to my pharmacist, the manufacturers have slowed production of Xenical to make the alli pills.

Iamme,
Thanks for you kind comments :)
Yes I'm doing well but so are you! If we keep going we will all get there in the end.

Here is a typical day for me.

Breakfast- Rice krispies or Special K with sem skimmed milk.

Lunch- Fresh fruit salad or green salad.

Dinner- 1.Grilled chicken with lots of veg.
2.Stir fry made with chicken and one of those stir fry veg packs from asda or Morrisons.
3. Jacket potatoe, Total 0% yoghurt with chives and either salad or veg.
4. Low fat ready meal. Always has to be under 3% fat for me.
5. Tony is working away Monday- Friday at the moment so I don't do much cooking through the week but at weekends I cook something for both of us from the following recipe book.....Ainsley Harriotts - Low Fat Meals In Minutes. It's a great book and only cost £6.50 from Amazon.

Bread is my BIG weakness so I've cut it out of my diet as I find it's easier for me to have none than just trying to have a little.

I do not eat anything between meals and I walk everywhere now.... the car hasn't been out for days.
I'm also using my exercise bike twice everyday.

Hope this helps :)
