Hi all,
I am 19 years of age, around 5'4 and weigh in at 15st....yuk!!
My weight has been an issue for as long as I can remember but in the last few years since i have left school my weight has been slowly creeping up. The only time i managed to loose weight was when i was about 14 and had time to do an exercise DVD every night and was too busy worrying about other things to eat. Ever since then I have tried different diets including the Dukan Diet, Weight Watchers and Slimming World etc. However i think the reason I haven't successfully lost weight is because i haven't had the will power or motivation to do it, not because of the diet itself.
my weight is the only thing constantly getting me down and throughout the last couple of years I have seen how much my weight holds me back. It has started to affect the way and amount of socialising I do with my friends and my attitude towards meeting new people.
HOWEVER, I have come to a stand still in my life with just completing three years of A level Studies and no plans what-so-ever for my future..and really do believe that NOW is the time to do something about the one thing in my life that constantly gets me down!
I have spent considerable time researching various diets and believe CD is the one for me. There are a few reasons for this:
-it completely aliminates any choice making in regards to what food to eat/ prepare etc.
-it is instant, quick weight loss and I have found that in the past when I start dieting and exercising and dont see immediate results, i give up. simple as that.
- The one to one meetings with your consultant- having someone to advise and support me through the diet will really help me.
Please dont think I am going into this thinking its going to be all fun and games and easy as pie... I dont!! I have been realistic about how much it is going to change my life for a period of time. I have no doubts about how miserable I may feel when I cant eat what I am craving, how socialising with my friends is going to change and become more difficult but I truly believe that for me, the long term benefits of the diet far out weigh the things I will have to sacrifice for a while. I will be honest though, i am scared! Im scared about how drastic the diets going to be, how im going to cope but mostly im scared that this could be ANOTHER diet i fail!!
So after rambling on and on, I just wondered if anyone would be kind enough to share with me their journey through CD, including the difficult parts and maybe just some words of encouragment!!
Thankyou :)

Hi rb93!

Welcome to the forum. You do seem to be in the right frame of mind for starting this diet - and that is great because if you don't then your screwed. It is hard as you know - socialising becomes very different and you really have to stay strong. I did lighter life a few years ago and lost 3 stone but ended up putting most of it back on when I went back to old eating habits :( which will happen whatever diet you are on if u go back to old ways! I've lost a stone and a half this time round so far and feel so much better! This diet is an emotional roller coaster, and you have to be prepared for the years and tantrums as on my case sometimes ha ha! I'm 23 now and graduated from uni last year - im about to start my first teaching job in Spain from September and I need to do this now more than ever. It's better to sort it out whilst your young - you'll only be young once and in my opinion it's a shame to go through some of the best years of life overweight and feeling miserable. It's now or never! I guarantee after a week of this diet you will feel ten times better - you will be in ketosis at around day 4 or 5 and won't feel physically hungry any more but you do have to get through those first days which are the hardest. But you will feel less bloated, not hungry, and most people get ketosis induced euphoria! You feel so content and happy it really is so worth getting to that point. Plus your energy levels will shoot up as you'll be getting all the nutrients you need (I certainly wasn't getting that before!) remember the more water you drink the more you shrink - I aim for about 4 litres of water a day. Very important that you spread your water out throughout the day otherwise it can be very dangerous, a woman a few years ago drank 4 litres in 2 hours an died from brain swelling so as long as you spread it out you'll be fine. You will need to go to the loo constantly but it helps if you imagine you are weeing out fat! I also think of the shakes as 'medication' to cure me of being fat lol, that sometimes helps. And coming on this forum is amazing and so motivating! Have a look on the pictures section if you haven't already.
Good luck hun this is so so worth it if you stick with it! Just remember why you are doing this.
If you need anything else or advice just ask :)

Hi rb93

You sound like you are in a good frame of mind to give it a go. Its a tough diet for sure, but it also has spectacular results. There are some huge losses on here -but do remember CD say the average loss is a stone a month - so be realistic in how fast you will lose - if you are expecting losses in excess of 3 lbs every week it might not happen and you might feel frustrated(however see below!). The losses won't be linear - you will have weeks of There is a great sticky at the top about judging losses by the scales - which just about says it all

For me the only way was 100% - I can't do it if I have a cheat here, a treat there, a night off here/there. It has to be 100% and if that means missing birthdays/christmas etc so be it. Not everyone is like that but I am. I know that is I have a choice to make it gets tougher and that is why CD works so well for me.

First time round I lost 8 stone and felt amazing - when I started the diet I worked out how long it would take me to get to goal based on losing 3 lbs a week (10 months) so I mentally committed to doing it for that whole time. I ended up 4 lbs away from goal in 6 months (then had an operation and it all went to pot after that so now I am back to finish it off once and for all and then work up through the plans back to "normal".

This site is a great support and there are so many lovely people willing to help.

Good luck - looking forward to following your journey

Hi Halle!!
Thankyou for your reply and letting me know how you find it!! I actually feel excited to start. For the first time in my life, I was doing my hair and make up the other day and thought to myself 'why are you bothering, you've still got a fat body' I have never ever been this resigned to being fat and I know this is a really slippery slope if I keep having thoughts like this!!
The other question I wanted to ask was is there anything I can do before I start to prepare myself? I've started to try and drink more water each day as I know this is a major part of the diet. I am aiming to start the diet at the beginning of August, paying for it is going to leave me with about £20 to live on each week but considering I wont be able to do most socialising, I didn't think that would be too much of a problem!! Haha.
Also, when you are on the diet, how do you cope when you have events like holidays/weddings etc? I have quite a lot planned for the rest of the year and when trying to decide when to start, there never seem to be a good time as each month I have something on?!
Sorry for all the questions haha x

Hi bethereforchristmas!!
I agree that the only way is 100%!! I know if I allow myself the odd treat here and there, they will become more frequent and I will quickly undo any hard work I do!! I need complete, strict control over what I can eat and I think this is why WW and SW didn't work for me as I had to think about what to eat and would spend hours looking in the kitchen for inspiration and just deciding on something thst was quick and easy because I was so fed up!!
How much exercise do/did you do whilst on the diet? I am no gym bunny but I dont mind exercise once I have motivated myself to go!! Haha.
Thankyou for your help x

Hi Halle!!
Thankyou for your reply. I do think im in the right frame of mind, just because I am just so desperate now. I was doing my hair and make up the other day and just thought to myself "why are you bothering? your still going to have a fat body"!! I have never ever thought like this and never want to again to be honest.
Doing this diet will only leave me with about £20 a week to live on as I only work part time, but this doesn't seem to bother me? I think because I wont be able to do so much socialising anyway, I wouldnt particularly need the money and the money i would spend would just be on food and clothes anyway.
I am aiming to start at the beginning of august and when thinking about when to start, there never really seemed to be a good time due to upcoming do's i had on such as holidays and weddings!! However, if i wait till a 'good time' I never will start! but I would like to know how you deal with it when your on a diet and have to go to things such as weddings etc?
Also do you have any suggestions as to anything I could do to prepare myself before I start? I have started to drink more water each day as I know this is important to the diet.
I agree that its better to do it whilst your young, my dream and goal is to go traveling in around a year nd 1/2 time and there is no way I am starting another adventure in my life, fat!!
Thankyou for your advice, although I haven't started the diet yet, i do feel less aprehensive about it then i did!
Rosie xx
