How much curry powder? Mushy Pea Curry

I posted this in a curry thread but not got a response yet and I want to try it today, but most people will be asleep by my lunch time, so thought I better ask again now....

"Right then I'm in the mood to try something outside my comfort zone yet quick and easy so I don't growl if I don't like it! So mushy pea curry it is then! I don't like mushy peas but I'm believing the comments that it doesn't taste like mushy peas!

My problem is the curry powder. Other than at school many many many moons ago, I've never made a curry. So I have no idea how much curry powder to add! I don't like really hot curries, preference heatwise is Korma up to an indian restaurant curry sauce, madras is way too hot for this little weed

So how much would you suggest I start with curry powderwise? I can always add more if it's too woosey! Please be kind and don't play tricks on me .... I don't wish to be spending the next few days ensconced on the loo!"

I use a mild curry powder and add 1 tbs, you could always add more if you wanted to. I like to saute onions till they are really soft and golden before adding the powder. Hope you like it, and like you say it is so quick and cheap to make so no huge waste if you are not keen.

I made it yesterday and it was OK, I don't think it will be a favourite but it had a lot going for it!

I was having a green day and you can't get quorn here so I made it with big chopped up mushrooms to add some substance to it. I could only get medium curry powder, the supermarkets here don't have much choice when it comes to curries, it's not so popular as it is in the UK.

I will make it again though, because it's a very quick, easy and inexpensive meal.

I only used 1/2 onion, half a tin of mushy peas and half a tin of chopped tomatoes and then put 1 tsp of curry powder and some salt and put it in a blender. Then I boiled some dhal separately and just added it in to the curry and put some spinach in and let it simmer and it was really tasty! Also mixed in 1 Quorn Fillet-Definately will try this mushy pea curry again.

i made this curry last night and it was gorgeous - just had more for my lunch is the curry powder free? or does that have syns? thanks cat x

Ok, i do a lot of indian cooking so here's my two cents worth!! if you like it hot then add around two teaspoons and get the rest of your flavours from ginger garlic and onion!

i know everyone one will tell you different things but in my opinion less is more!! the curry powder u add the overpowering it is and you wont be able to taste anything else!

I'm a bit of a lost soul when it comes to cooking and tend to follow recipes to the letter, basically not an instinctive cook! If I were to add ginger, much would I add? That sentence has reminded me of this ... "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

depends how strong you want it!! i usually grate a piece say the size of a 50p thats around an inch long in a curry for 2 people
