Moooooo
Hello everyone. I really mean it this time! :D

I started losing weight in February with Slimming World and so far it's been pretty good. I'm so pleased there is this section on the website. I know it sounds mean but there is only so often I can sympathise with normal weight people at group. It seems to me that yes we attend the same groups, have the same goals but also are so far apart that it's very different. Does that make sense?!

I am going to lose 17 1/2 stone if it's the last thing I do! That will still put me in the overweight category but thinking beyond that is a little more than I can imagine at the moment. More than the numbers though, I will be happy when I can move without too much pain, walk further than a few steps and maybe walk down the street without being the local freak. Who knows, maybe I'll miss all those things lol.

I'm looking forward to losing lots of weight with you all :)

:welcome: Hi Laura

I go to ww classes and it can be difficult when you have a lot to lose and there are people who want to lose 1 stone but I suppose to them that is like a mountain. I only know I wish I had tackled my weight when I was only a stone overweight.

This is one reason why minimins is so great. There are people who are in similar positions and there are those who have achieved their goals and are great inspiration.

Good luck with your weight loss, Look forward to hearing how you get on :D

Hi Laura,

Welcome to minimins. I am also doing SW, joined in September 2009 and have lost 6st so far (another 6 to go....)

Good luck with your weight loss journey. SW is great, there are always so many new recipes to try

Hey Laura!

Well done on the weight loss so far, you're doing excellently! I know what you mean about sympathising with others, my sister has just lost a load of weight and don't get me wrong I am really proud of her, but we're talking a couple of dress sizes and she's already into a size 12. She wasn't big, she was just what I consider your average "about to turn 40, mum of two". She'd talk about how hard it was or whatever and sometimes it did get a little tough to keep patting her on the back and saying there, there. Does that make me sound like a total b*tch?

But, even when it got hard I never stopped telling her she was doing awesome and now luckily she's doing it for me so I guess everything has its upside! (Even if I do want to growl at her when she slips on her size 12s and starts talking about how hard it was and how long it took her to get into them lol)!

Keep up the good work and look forward to losing loads of weight with you too!

:D

Thanks for the welcome everyone :)

Well done for your wonderful weight losses. You must be so proud!

MayfairE, no no you don't sound like a b****, just someone normal. :D

To be fair the ladies at my group are lovely and very very helpful. One lady who started the same night as me was asking if I'd lost inches and I said it's a little hard to tell when I have to wrap the tape measure around twice. She offered me an extra long one she has at home which will be great! Another lady has offered to lend me recipe books for photo copies which will save me a fortune. :)

Vanda you're right, I need to remember that weight loss is just as hard for all of us, whether for those trying to lose their last few lbs and watching someone like me easily shed a couple each week or for me wishing I too needed to worry about the last inch that just won't budge!

The last 2 weeks have been really disappointing, only 1/2lb a week but I think I've figured what I've done wrong. Also having the children home from school means I haven't been able to swim like I normally do. I'm hoping that come Tuesday when I WI things will have picked up a little, 3 weeks ago I was only 5.5lbs away from getting below 30 stone and was sure I'd do it within 2 weeks easily. That'll teach me to stop being so sure of myself.:p
Just getting below that 30 will be fantastic!

Have a great week ladies. :D

Hello Laura, I just wanted to say hello and to empathise completely with what you're saying.
I started my weight loss journey back in 2001 at 20st 10lbs, and eventually got down to 12st 7ish a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately, I took my eye of the ball, gained a shed-load of weight again, and re-started my journey this January at around 18st 12lbs.
I've got a few friends who struggle with their weight to a certain extent, but I find it VERY difficult to empathise with their struggles to lose a stone or so, or to sympathise when they can't fit into their size 12 clothes anymore and now need a 14.
I know this makes me sound very bitter (and I'm not thinking like this so much now I'm doing something about my own weight) but sometimes I just feel like on the surface I'm saying the right thing to them, but in my head I'm thinking 'how would you feel if you lost 8 stone and put six stone back on?'. 'how would you feel if you'd NEVER been able to shop in Topshop/Oasis/Jane Norman?', 'how would you feel if you felt so uncomfortable in your own body that you would rather stay at home than socialise?'
Obviously it wouldn't be fair to say those kinds of things out loud, because it's not their fault that I've struggled so much with my own weight! They didn't put the food in my mouth - I did! And also, it's not their fault that they can't comprehend being outside the boundaries of a 'normal' size/weight.
I suppose what it boils down to is that everone's weight/body image is a very personal thing, and nobody's body 'issues' should be dismissed as less important, just because they seem minimal compared to another person's.
However, I think dealing with a weight loss of more than 6 stones is a completely different challenge to losing, say a stone or so. Losing big numbers on the scales requires dedication for months, sometimes years - it's not short term pain for long term gain, it's a complete lifestyle change.
Anyway, I'm rambling now, but good luck with your weight-loss journey Laura - you sound as though your head is in the right place for this, which is half the battle.
Once you start seeing the results of your hard work, you'll get that boost to keep you going and to keep seeing the new you emerge!
:)

Hi Laura,
Congratulations on a great start, you'll be under 30 in no time- those milestones really do make a difference!
I can so relate to what you are are all saying about the differences in weight loss. My mum is always "needing" to lose 1/2 stone and sometimes it is really difficult empathising with her. I know that must seem like a lot to her and it is not a competition, but it is lovely having people on here who need to lose a similar amount of weight, and people who are doing the same diet, it means that help support and advice is available from a range of people with similar issues.

Good luck with your diet this week x :)

Ya know what, just remember Laura 1/2lb off a week is better than 1/2lb ON!

Well done either way!

:D

Hi Laura!! :)

I know exactly what you mean about the people who only have a little to lose - I will admit to looking at some of them and thinking "WUT? Where are you gonna lose it from?!" I also get my bloke whinging about his "belly".... He's a 32/34 inch waist, and thinks he needs to lose weight... He looks fine to me, but I have to remind myself that it's what is in his head that counts. Regardless of the amount to lose, if you are unhappy and want to change it, then s0d what anyone else thinks, and do it for you!

Mind you, his opinion soon changes when I made a nice healthy pasta salad for tea... "Where's the rest?" haha. Geek! :)

Anyways...!!! Good luck for the healthy eating plan! I don't like to call it a diet! Keep on here, keep speaking to us, and keep at SW. It's good, I lost a fair bit with SW before I started WW for smaller portion sizes :) And keep asking questions :) That's the best way to go about it!!

:D x
