but still following the diet religiously does this mean you are losing muscle and not fat?

Will you not lose as much as someone in ketosis

    or

is it just that being in ketosis stops you feeling hungry?

Ketosis acts to stop you feeling hungry, and it is the body burning fat to create energy. If you are not in ketosis, your body is using up your glycogen store (or the carbs you have eaten and stored earlier). Once you have used them up, you got into fat burning mode :)

    thanks for that

one thing that puzzles me though is...if you consume something with zero calories...and have already used up your glycogen stores surely its impossible to knock yourself out of ketosis as you have no glycogen left to use up....thinking about the zero coke again..lol

    eg

Im on day 5 and in ketosis...so Ive used up my glycogen stores....if I drink too much zero coke I may knock myself out of ketosis due to the flavourings but....I have already used up my glycogen so what will I burn once knocked out ...if you get my meaning...sorry if this dosnt make sense

    lol

You have to consider the carbs in your zero cal drink. If it is high in carbs, it can knock you out of ketosis.

Also it's not necessarily the flavourings can knock you out of the pink (that can be the fault of the citric acid used in some of the drinks), it's that the flavourings can kick off emotional cravings that are hard to fight.

but you still burn fat then?

Im just trying to understand the once in ketosis...being knocked out and what the cause of being knocked out means...I take it that if you are knocked out rather by a zero calorie drink you will still burn fat but you will find it hell as you will be hungry all the time..am I right?

Sorry for being so thick (just think I may have overdone the coke today...and want to reassure myself that if im out of ketosis it just means a battle of hunger till im back in but still burning fat)

but you still burn fat then?

If it contains citric acid and your body is sensitive to those types of things, a cola drink can knock you out of ketosis, which means you are no longer burning fat.

I take it that if you are knocked out rather by a zero calorie drink you will still burn fat but you will find it hell as you will be hungry all the time..am I right?

Not necessarily. If your diet drink is high in carbs, it can kick you out of ketosis so you won't be burning fat - your body will use those carbs up first.

just think I may have overdone the coke today...

To be honest, on day 5 I would recommend you knock the diet coke on the head - best to do the plan as cleanly as you can from the start to give yourself a fighting chance. I know some of these treats are considered 'legal' but all of them come with the warning that if you add to the programme, you run the risk of it not working the way it is meant to.

I don't mean to preach in any way, shape or form, but the best way of doing the plan (if you can) is to stick to the water, your packs, and nothing else. But if you must add your legal treats be vigilant to cravings, etc and don't expect the same results.

My ketostick rarely shows pink but I am one of the most consistent losers in my LL group. I haven't cheated, over-exercised or had water flavourings btw. I'm really not bothered that I rarely test pink because I have lost 3 stone in 2 months so I think I can cope! Oh and I don't ever 'feel' hungry even is I sometimes 'think' hungry.

My ketostix never once showed pink. Ended up buying 3 tubs of them in case there was something wrong.

I knew I was in ketosis though, so gave up checking.

OMG to the ingredients in Zero Coke! Must say I am tempted by the caffeine in it though :D
