Is all pasta the same?

Wholewheat pasta is much better in the same ways that brown rice and brown bread are - it's a slower energy release and lower GI. White pasta is fine and free, but choose wholewheat if you can.

Just to confuse matters...you know all the different pasta shapes? Well they're all designed for different sauces! Each shape 'holds' the sauce in a particular way.
Thin, delicate pastas like angel hair or thin spaghetti, should be served with light, thin sauces. Thicker pasta shapes, like fettuccine, work well with heavier sauces.

PS: I know this partly because of my Sicilian father, who has drilled it into me all my life...and also because I am a food geek! LOL!

Does everyone always have wholemeal or wholewheat pasta? I know it suggests in the book ideally but what do people do?
