Is pasta causing my bloating???

Thoughts please:- (and sorry for starting a new thread but can't find the original one) - right, I do green days and eat a LOT of white pasta, no cream, no sauce, nothing - just plain boiled pasta - good for me, or so I thought - I do tend to get bloated and feel I want to spend a penny a lot - I put this down to being on SW and cutting out the non-free foods etc - but now I wonder if I could be alergic to pasta? I also have a lot of wind when on green days!!! Could it be the pasta and if so, is it all carbs that may make me this way or just pasta, as I believe it does swell up in yr tum!!?? If this is the case, are spuds and rice ok????

I used to find that pasta made my tummy bloat and had wind, etc so I got food intolerance tests carried out (I have Crohn's Disease so wanted to be sure that it wasn't that playing up) and they showed that I had an intolerance to wheat. I cut out it out from my diet and slowly introduced it and I'm now fine after I eat it. I always eat wholewheat pasta now. I never had a problem with rice or potatoes. Chances are you might be intolerant to pasta - you could try cutting it out for awhile and see how you get on, then slowly re-introduce it - good luck! xx

Have you been tested for Coeliac disease (intollerance to wheat)? Do you experience a similar thing with bread?

Try swapping to jacket spuds for a filling green day stodge fix for a bit. I agree with Weemo, cutting pasta out is probably a good idea. Worst case scenario, if the bloating continues, you'll know it wasn't the pasta! :)

If it is coeliac's, you need to avoid gluten. Gluten based foods include:
Bulgar
Cous cous
Dinkle
Durum Wheat
Einkorn
Emmer Wheat
Kamut
Semolina
Spelt
Triticale

The following are gluten-free:
Buckwheat
Carageenan
Caramel
Corn
Cornflour
Cornstarch
Maize Starch
Dextrin
Glucose Syrup
Gram Flour
Guar Gum
Hops
Maltitol
Maltodextrin
Maize
Millet
Modified Starch
Monosodium Glutamate
Mustard Flour
Pea Starch
Polenta
Potato Starch
Quinoa
Rice
Rice Flour
Rice Malt
Rice Rusk
Sago
Sorghum
Soya Lecithin
Tapioca
Tapioca Starch
Teff
Xanthan Gum
Yeast
Yeast Extract

Please bear in mind that coeliac disease is caused by a reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, and other similar proteins found in rye, barley and oats. It is a condition that lasts but can be controlled by dietary tweaks. It does need to be diagnosed by a GP/Specialist. Scarily, 4 out 5 people with coeliac disease don't know that they have the disease.

Please get it checked!

you are a diamond for all yr help and a big thankyou - have noted polenta and quinoa - never tried 'em before - does Tesco sell 'em? Shant run to docs yet as am not one for doing that, but shall just experiment on myself (oohh errr missus) and shall let you all know - wish me luck!!! Last question, shld I stay clear of white rice and just use brown??? xxxx

Not sure on the rice types! I'd carry on the self-experimentation route (oo-er ;) ) and see which work best for you x

I only do green and average a 1.5lb weight loss a week. I think you do have to be more careful with what you eat to ensure you get a decent loss each week and if you are intolerant to something that could make your losses even harder. It's worth trying mixing up things and seeing how you go. This week I have had no pasta and mainly stuck to boiled new potatoes, I've had rice once and have cut back on bread. I also think you have to watch your A and B choices because its easy to get stuck having the same thing.
Good luck with your week ahead
