Kid's clothes for 'larger than average' children?

Back to the original topic!

Well, we went uniform shopping today (£62 on new pairs of school shoes for the two of them ). I tried BHS's generous fit trousers in aged 8 - they did up on my son, but looked quite snug and uncomfortable. The age 9s would've been fine (he turns 9 in seven weeks anyway), but they were too long! I decided that if I was going to have to turn them up anyway, I may aswell by bigger, cheaper pairs from Tesco!

I had to go to a specialist stockist for my daughter's new secondary school uniform, and had the oposite problem there, as most things were too big! (She is a bit of a titch. ) We got some stuff, but they're ordering the rest in. Still managed to spend £90 in there, though.

Bloomin' kids - they're costing me a fortune!

I,ve just had to have a mad rush to the shops as the 2 pairs of shoes I originally bought my daughter (in a 3 and a 4) didnt fit her........ bought her another 4 with 5 mins to spare lol as they looked slightly bigger, but nope too small so now she,s going to school in the other pair thats too big lol with an extra pair of socks.

Hehe - poor girl!! I have to do the whole Clarks thing with mine, as my daughter has very narrow feet, and my son's are exceptionally wide - off the scale even for Clarks' widest measurement! Clarks were a nightmare today, as the whole world have obviously waited until now to buy new school shoes - we had to wait for an hour before the kids were even measured!

What are you going to do with all those spare shoes?

pandora: I suppose i'm lucky that my two are different genders. Your two are the same ages as my two, but, because they're a girl and a boy, the don't really compare themselves to each other. Is your eldest going to secondary this September, like mine? Scary stuff!

all though there is 3 years difference in age there is only about 5 or 6 inches difference in height, my youngest is the tallest in her year, she is also quite broad shouldered, like myself & hubby.Although i was skinny as a child & my daughter a bit chubby, her shape is very much like my side of the family & the elder one more muscular shaped like her father. DD2 holds most of her weight around her waist, just like me. both girls play 2 hrs football on a Saturday, but just like me she doesn't really enjoy exersize. As i don't like it its hard to set a good example , DD1 is like her dad in that they love sports.

My son is fairly tall, too, although he isn't the tallest in his year! My daughter, however, has been the shortest girl in her year for a while! Like your daughter, my son is broad shouldered, and simply has a big frame all over - as I said in my 'shoe' post yesterday, he even has extraordinarily wide/broad feet! He carries just a bit of extra weight all over - very much like his dad. (On a side note, i'm divorced from their dad, and as I lost my weight, he piled it on - he must've gained at least what i've lost since we split up! It kinda makes me smug, but it also concerns me that he won't be fit/healthy/alive (!) for our children.)

Like your daughter, my son unfortunately doesn't like exercise. I used to send him to football training too, but he really wasn't keen, and spent most of his time mooching around the goal area! I'm not much into 'structured' exercise, but, since losing my weight, I love going out on long walks and generally being active. My daughter's always keen to come along, but I have to drag my son out of the house! I've just started letting him go out to play this year though, so that's been great, as he goes off on his scooter and runs around with his friends without even thinking about the fact that he's exercising - i'm hoping that might help him to lose a little weight!

have just emailed them to see if they have the size I need. Have just bought my lil man 2 pairs at £18.00 each from the school shop only £6.50 in woolies but they dont have his size.
If these are cheaper then I'll take one pair back and order the ones from the site...

My bfs kid is 14 so wants trendy clothes but hes a big lad (not overweight just big for his age)is difficult getting trendy teenager cothes for him.In small adults there too long in sleave and leg lol but fit in the waist.Its a nightmare.His 12 year old boy is skinny so hes no problem lol

How tall is he? My 12 yr old is 5ft 9 and we buy in JD - he loves it there.

If he is larger around the waist, any of the sports shops, as sports gear has elasticated waist.

I hate taking things up.. but because im 4"11.. i just have to.. but i use special sticky tape which you just fold under and iron instead of sewing it.. Would that help at all?

I was 5ft 5 when I started secondary school and I remember my mum finding it a nightmare because all of the clothes designed for age 11 were far too short in the leg or far too wide in the middle. I sympathise with all of you.

M&S do plus size school trousers qith a little extra waist room in them...my wee one is well built so we usually stick to tracksuit bottoms from Sports Direct.
