Looking for friends

Hi,

I feel a bit sad doing this but, I would like to make some friends via here who know what it's like to be big, to be on slimming world (or any other diet) and to go through all the stuff I'm going through - feeling bad about my weight, feeling lonely, emotionally eating, feeling like my weight makes me ugly - etc.

I'd like to make new friends who I can meet up with, or even just chat to online as I start slimming world and try to lose the 6 stone I am hoping will give me the life I have always wanted and feel is so far away.

At the same time, I'd like to make new friends who are like me in other ways so I can stop being so sad and lonely!

I am 31 in about 4 weeks, I am a teacher and live in Manchester. I love music - lots! I'm more into my alternative stuff than anything else and especially like NIN, Tori Amos, The Cure, Linkin Park, Paramore, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Florence and the Machine, Marina and the Diamonds and a million other bands. I love going to see movies, am mad about Twilight, True Blood, Criminal Minds, CSI etc. I love to socialise and to cook, to shop, go for coffee, have picnics, go exploring etc. I weigh 234lbs but have a deep desire to be the gothy sex siren I know is in there somewhere (think ditta von teese!).

If anyone feels like we might have anything in common, I have facebook which I think is linked on my profile here, or you can leave me a message. I'd really, really like to make some awesome friends here so please get in touch!!

PS I know this is a crap message - just wasn't sure what to write so as to not sound sad and desperate!

Hi Angeljaide,

I'm Toni. Nice to meet you. I know what you mean about needing friends who understand all the issues that come with being overweight.

HUGS.

/hugs and welcome! :welcome:

I don't think it's sad at all. I think it's brave to actually admit you'd like some friends on here, as i think most ppl just sit and suffer in silence! :character00117:

You can pm me anytime and i'll add you to my facebook! :party0016:

Hi Toni,

Thanks for the reply. I have some great friends but, not only do they not understand what it feels like to be overweight this way, weirdly enough they don't share my interests. If I can meet people who fulfil both categories it'll be fab! Looks like you're doing really well. How long have you been doing it and how do you find it? x

I'm starting as an NQT in September but live near Andover - so too far from you. What do you teach? Primary or Secondary?

I wish you lots of luck on your journey and am always around on here if you need a friend. I'm a single mum so sometimes feel quite isolated and lonely too.

Well I love Tori Amos (seen her live 3 times now), Fiona Apple and The Cure so we already have something in common other than SW. :D

I don't think this is a sad post at all, a big part of me joining minimins was to make friends in the same situation as me. Feel free to pop in chat every night from 9pm, lots of us meet up in there now. Sometimes a bit naughty but very fun! I will also add you on facebook!

hi its not sad at all, iknow what your going through, im nearly 31 as well and have lost weight but always ended up putting it back on and each time i seem to have lost my self esteem at the same time! i think your so brave in fact everyone here is i dont even have the courage to go to a slimming group and i make silly excuses like i work shifts (which i do) so i couldnt go but really its cos im so scared! good luck its lovely to be around people who know how you feel about things that skinny people just dont understand! like having to ask for a seat belt extender on a flight to the us last year! :( (ive never told anyone that before)
