Hi all, just wanted to say that I have come off TFR to do some refeed to enjoy Christmas with family and friends etc and my first week of 2 shakes and a meal each day, and that has resulted in a gain of 2lbs for the first week.

I am not too disappointed as I did truly expect to gain a little and I am so truly chuffed at my achievement so far. I have lost so much weight since July I could not be happier specially as I am the lightest I have been in years.

I think that the fact that its Christmas and there are lots of temptations around its a lot harder to say no. I also feel so much more hungry too - like my tum has said " oooo food gimme more ". It may also be that I'm approaching totm and have a tendency to retain lots of water might be a factor too.

I shall stay on this part of the programme for the holidays, and like someone else said to one the January restarters - that to use this as a bit of a dry run - come back to TFR after the holidays and then when ready, be able to do refeed with more focus.

At least still having one or two shakes per day there is an element of control.


Like I say I am not too down about it and hopefully it will even out next week.

Jools, I can empathise entirely with where you are at right now. Christmas puts a lot of pressure on everyone. You have made a decision to refeed and to try and stay on refeed till you restart in the new year. Stay on track as best you can over the hols and take a fresh look at what you want to do in the new year.
You have done incredibly well to date and can address the balance you want to lose when you are ready.
I am doing my best to stay focussed at present too. I am feeling the strain of staying on TFR as family want me to break for a while to re-establish eating patterns etc. TFR can become an addiction in its own right. Both my physio and doc view LT only as a "kick start" not as the entire solution. We have to be able to live in the real world of food. Decisions, decisions!!!!! Why can't life be simple!!! Oh well maybe Santa will have the solution!!!

I've been on re-feed for 6 days in preparation for myself to be able to have a christmas dinner with the family. The problem I have is that I can't manage 2 shakes and a meal, i'm only having 1 shake and a very small meal. I have had a few cravings but its all psychological, cravings only last a few minutes so i just get up and do something else. I had 2oz brown pasta with my salad last night - i felt awful after had really bad stomach cramps!! It is hard but look at what you've achieved, i think its much harder being on shakes than having to control eating right now but we're all different. I'm going to weigh tomorrow and hopefully I'll have lost. I'm obsessed with weighing and do it every morning.

Good luck for now and the new year - just remember how well you've done and that i'm sure lots of people are in the same place right now.

What sort of things were you eating for your meals?
As things like pots/bread/pastas etc will undoubtably result in a weight gain as you havnt followed a refeed plan.

Nevertheless enjoy your christmas, dont go ott and i hope getting back on it isnt too hard for you :)

I can relate, I decided to refeed for Christmas also but I didnt have the sheet nor any money to go buying groceries so I just had to wing it, low carb high protein and I still gained a pound. Im not prepared to risk gaining any more though, that really disheartened me so have decided to start LT again today. However, you sound like you have your head in the right place to do the refeed and survive christmas and of course you have every right to feel proud of your achievement to far, you have done fantastically well. Retain control and enjoy your christmas, if you're going to eat you may as well enjoy it before the strict LT regimen kicks back in again in the New Year.

No pots, pasta or bread - just lean meats and veggies - small portions. Like I say I am not disappointed and am relieved that its not more - if I gain next week I will still be ok about things.

I suspect that I just have a very slow metabolism and am brill at retaining water especially just before totm.

We are all only human and the battle against our demons only really start once we have food again. TFR is a breeze compared to facing food again - but I will succeed in this - I have come too far to give up now. :D

Oh tell me about it! I have been trying to grasp the maintaining handles for a fair few weeks now but to no avail. Im up and down all the time and it can be pretty depressing but like you say we have come too far to let it all go so we shall all plod along :)

I've been seeing your struggles in the maintenance thread Tanya, its a hard battle and I dont think that Christmas is helping anyone really right now - but after the holidays I shall knuckle down and get back on track properly, lose loads of weight and get to goal. At least having the 2 shakes per day is giving me a little bit of control. :D
