Mobile phone upgrade question

This is very off-topic, but I would like to get your views on this.

Someone I met today just got a free upgrade on his mobile phone. He doesn't like it, and prefers his old one (which he still has).

So he is thinking of keeping the old one and selling the upgrade. Can he do this?

It seems a bit odd to me. He says that no-one would know, which I suppose is true. But he hasn't paid for this upgrade, so is the new phone really his to dispose of?

Ive done that in the past. If you look on ebay there are 1000's of people doing the same. The phone companies dont care. Youre tied to your new contract regardless of what phone you use :)

i was wondering something similiar
at the end of your contract, are you allowed to keep your handset even if you dont take out a new contract with the same company? xx

How can you be sure there's no info left in the phone when you sell it? Thats what would worry me. Or is there a way to delete everything?

Irene xx

OK, thanks for the input. The logic of all this defeats me!

He gets a new phone - a very expensive one - for nothing, AND gets a cheaper tariff than the one he had previously. And then it's OK if he sells the phone?

It's not that I don't believe you - I do! It's just that it isn't logical.
