New to Forum - Please read my story (many can probably relate to it)

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum, as have been looking at it and found it to be a great help.

For over a year, I had gained a pound here and a pound there and didn't really realise until I got on the scales. Like most, I was a healthy weight when I met my boyfriend three years ago but comfort eating, big portions, meals out and socialising before I knew it I had gained 2 and a 1/2 stone. I always thought I diet would make me unhappy and I couldn't have fun and go out drinking with my friends so accepted my weight for thought of being happy. I joined Slimming World a few years ago, lost 1/2 a stone and thought I could eat how I wanted so suprise, suprise fell off the wagon and piled all the weight back on plus more.

I realised I knew I needn't to do something about it when I started avoiding meeting up with friends. Some had been dieting and it was often a topic of conversation when we met up. ' So, how's the diet going?' etc, when it came round to me I made excuses, 'I'd rather me fat and happy' than miserable and skinny etc etc. I avoiding nights out like the plague, dreading having to draps round shops looking for an outfit that didn't make me feel fat. Gok Wan made me cry everytime I watched it knowing how happy the people felt after he helped them and how low they felt and high they felt after.

On the 21st Sept, I vowed to change my life and not for a silly diet but a way of life. I signed up for the Great North Run next Sept 2010 and started running with a friend three times a week. A vowed to start back on Slimming World and here I am! I am not going to the groups so feel the forum is a great place for people to spur each other one, swap ideas etc.

So far, I have lost 9lbs and would like to get to 1 stone before the 5th Dec. A christmas night out with my friends and the first night out for many months.

Next weigh in is Monday, fingers crossed.

brilliant, welcome. I have apretty similar story of creeping weight etc but have never tried dietting before until it started affecting my health more and more. 9lbs is great, just keep at it. :)

This is only my second week and tbh I have been amazed by the diet so far, the variety you can eat etc.
Best of luck, suzanne

Hi well done on training for your run and well done for your weightloss so far, keep up the good work xx

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and good lucks.
Weigh in didnt go so well this week. Stayed the Same, which is suppose is better than putting on. Did a 2mile run and 3 fitness classes last week so expected to have lost at least a few pounds, any ideas???

Followed plan pretty much apart from a few too many syns one day!

Thinking of changing my weigh day to a fri morning so can be really good, if I have a few sneaky syns at the weekend.

Hi and good luck with dropping the weight back off. Joining SW and finding Minimins have really made the difference for me and I hope it will help you too.

And there is no need to have any sneaky syns at the weekend! Just plan your week, have the minimum 5 syns per day if you like or maybe a few more, and use the outstanding balance at the weekend if you think you will need them.

I've had a 40th party 2 Saturdays ago and a dinner &dance the previous saturday and did it for those, and neither has hindered my weight loss and I didn't break the plan. Same is true of this Saturday as I am off to TGI Fridays for another birthday party.

SW is soooooooooo flexible and so long as you plan accordingly there is very little you can't do :)
As you are exercising so much, you may find you need to eat more. Most people I have seen on here who struggle to lose weight do so because they aren't eating enough. People think you need to eat less, but in fact the opposite is true you need to fuel your body.

Did you write down what you ate/keep a diary? Might be an idea to publish it on here and get a few sets of eyes to go over it for you see if we can offer some ideas.

Thank you ive heard the same thing actually from a friend. That of you are burning alot of calories you need to consume more or your body goes into starvation mode.

Today's food diary, any suggestions needed:

Breakfast - Branflakes with semi skimmed milk

Lunch - Chicken alfredo pasta with a slice of ciabatta garlic bread (v.naughty but had a free luch ticket with work collegue and seemed to be the best choice on the menu) Any syn value suggestions would be great.

Dinner - Pasta with homemade tomato sauce, meatfree meatballs and a sprinkle of mozzarella

Drinks - diet coke and lots of water

No snacks today

Hi,

Used my HEx A for milk and mozarella cheese, sorry forgot to add had one alpen light bar too which goes towards my hexB - Branflakes also count as HexB I belive. Th wisas meant to be a green day but the chicken in my alfredo pasta I need to add as syn, was hoping someone could help me out with syns for this as havent got a clue??

I don't think Bran Flakes alone qualifies as a HEb. Did you weigh them? And did you measure your milk? And cheese (I doubt a sprinkle is enough to qualify as a HEa)? Not much has to be weighed or measured on SW but most of the HEX's do.

Sorry no idea how to syn your chicken. Would depend on how much there was, what else was in it/on it. You could use one or two of your HEb's toward it though if you were are on a green day. Perhaps ironically I would say the chicken was the least of your worries, syn wise, I reckon the garlic bread cost more!

Do you mind if I ask why you don't want to go to one of the groups? It may be worth you joining, getting the books and having it all explained in detail, and maybe going to one or two to get you going, then if you still don't want to go just leave - you'll get to keep all your books and the knowledge you picked up too :) It's just an idea, but I think it might benefit you in your journey.

I went to the Slimming World groups before and as well as the cost factor I didnt benefit at all from the group sessions. I find this forum to be 20x more effective and its FREE!! Ive got all the books from the last time I did it, I use the Branflakes from the cereals section in the hexB - 28g. My lunch yesterday was an expection so I am starting my food diary from today. Hope this will help.!! Thnaks for all your advice x

Good luck hun, you are doing great.
