Newbie (kinda) got a question re SW and my requirements

Well I'm a newbie to the forum but not really a newbie to SW but everytime I've done it I've not really stuck to it. It's been quite a while since I did it last too.

4 years ago I had a gastric bypass and although I've lost the majority of my weight I still have some to go. I've hit a massive plateau and I've put on a little bit after a really stressful time from nov-feb. My problem tho is I'm a very extremely bad chocoholic, due to my op I'm not tolerating some foods (breads, rice pasta, fresh veg) in the respect of them getting stuck. Another problem at the moment is I have a pretty rare side effect of the operation which means I have frequent hypoglycemia attacks bought on by carbs (no I'm not diabetic, my pancreas just creates too much insulin and doesn't know when to stop!)

Basically I really want to start losing weight and work around my current problems. Do you think SW will work? I'm going to go on the assumption that my body will accept natural carbs and not the refined stuff/sugars I keep managing to shove in my mouth *cough* chocolate *cough*

One good thing tho is I don't absorb fats and quite a lot of calories don't get absorbed either.

So yeah, hopefully some people on here who are knowledgable enough on SW are able to comment on if it will fit around me.

thanks in advance

I think you need to speak to a qualified dietician to be honest , it sounds like you need some genuine medical advice.
From my point of view ,you have to eat quite alot on sw , how much can you eat at a time ,maybe you should try concentrating on trying to eat healthier for now ,rather than chocolate and seek some help.
Good luck :)

Slimming World is an excellent and healthy weight loss plan, and is also great for people to maintain on, but it does sound like you need some specialist advice hun! Good luck in getting to your goal and banishing those chocaholic habits! I'm sure you'll do it with the right advice and motivation!!X

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your SW journey.

In regards to seeking medical advice my consultant and his team just go on about how I need to avoid carbs, which technically I can't do. I've done low carb diets before and they make me so ill... I was just wondering about this extra easy plan or whatever. So if I eat a little bit of meat some veg/salad that i can tollerate and then possibly some pasta now and again (I can tollerate that pretty well but not always)

Suprisingly enough to the comment that says you have to eat a fair bit on SW, I can eat quite a bit and due to the hypoglycemia I have to eat quite regularly in an attempt to keep everything stable. It doesn't happen ALL the time just the some of the time.

As for just going on the basis of just trying to eat healthier, not so easy. Need to find something I can follow that will agree with me as the dips in the blood sugar cause me to eat stuff I shouldn't and that's why I have some weight gain at the moment. I think there's a SW class tonight locally so I may just pop along to that one.

I'm not an expert but I think you may be right that it is the simple carbs and chocolate that are causing you the problem. Would cutting back on the chocolate and switching to low GI wholemeal pasta not help to regulate your blood sugar levels in the same way it does for a diabetic. And don't forget that there are many other free foods you could have instead of just pasta - pulses are high in protein and can be eaten freely on green/EE, and there are other grains such as cous cous, bulgher wheat and quinoa. Perhaps you should focus on what you can have and eating healthily which must be better than what you are doing at the moment.

how about taking a copy of the plan to your consultant so it can be agreed what you should/not eat. Most consultants would advise this before taking you on.They have to be sure its right for you.Good luck x
