Hi everyone

My name is Sian and I live in Chichester.

After having 2 beautiful children, the youngest being 3 and a half Im left with a lovely 7st to shift  !!! I can no longer use the excuse Ive just had a baby !!

I did lighterlife years ago and did really well, the VLCD's seem to work well for me as I have PCOS . Since then tried lighterlife and cambridge but only lasted weeks.

Hence very pleased to find slim and save as the meals (saying that Ive not tried them yet and may take it all back lol ). Also the fact you can have veg appeals to me !!

Ive been reading your posts and tips so off to go and get some boullion later (think waitrose is the only place that does the marigold one ??).

Had the truffa bar this morning and I must say very nice !!! Think im getting old as Ive also just had an earl grey and loved it (had one once years ago and hated it).

Must say the service and support so far from Rob is amazing. So helpful. Got free water samples and the online chat is so handy to ask a question. Definate thumbs up thus far !

If anyone else has just started I would love a buddy, could really do with some support - going to miss my vino :( but it will all be worth it :D

Look forward to getting to know you all. Some amazing weight losses from you girls , so that gives me hope.
xx

Welcome Sian it's great on here lots of support and tips! I am on day 5 today and lost 11 1/2 Ibs so this diet works! I am an ex Cambridge dieter but got so fed up of the limited choice of shakes and the soups were yuk (although I am not a soup person!) I am loving s & s so much choice and love being able to have the veggies! I having been on 4 meal packs all week but tonight I am treating myself to a chicken fillet with veg instead of a meal pack as it's the weekend and using this as a little treat! This I think is the beauty of s&s!! Good luck and everyone on here is great any questions somebody will help you out! Keep us posted Amy xxx

Hi Sian, welcome to S&S! I'm a girl who likes her wine too but I know that I had to cut it out while I've been on this. It's probably good for me health wise anyway :). When I get to maintenance I'm going to try to restrict it to just weekends as I was having a glass (or 3) after work too and that's not going to help me keep the weight off long term. I love earl grey tea and the choc truffa bars. Feels like a treat, not diet food :).

Hope you can stick to it and do use this little forum for support. We're all in it together.

:Dthanks guys, wow over 11lb in 5 days - I will have a bit of that please !!!!:D

Really determined this time !!

LOL re the wine and 3 !! sounds like me but I agree so much better not to drink and I agree weekend only when Im done !! which will be about 8-9mths Im thinking !

Well Ive just had the cottage pie and was rather impressed after reading some of the posts but maybe as Id taken the advice from you guys first before trying. Think I went ott on the pepper but added some soy and pepper and mushrooms and was very edible. Looks like babyfood for sure but with some green veg around it doesn't taste any worse than the quorn cottage pie really (trying to convience herself). Im happy with this.

I'm going to try the spag bol tonight :) didn't order the chilli as i didn't like the lighterlife one when I did it but does anyone know if its any different. May get one next time to try at least.

In my sheet it says you should have chicken or fish if on 3 packs - do you guys all do that ?? or just the veg ??

Feeling uber positive :D

I'm on 3 packs and I don't have the protein. It wasn't a recommendation last year when I started so I've just carried on like that. I do have it as an occasional treat at the weekend or use the veg / protein guidelines if I'm eating out so I can still have a bit of normality.

Hi Sian, I'm new to s&s too....I did cd awhile back and s&s is much better so good luck.:)

Welcome! You can get the boullion in most large supermarkets, get the reduced salt one as it is still salty enough. I restrict myself to 1 or 2 tsp a day as drinks or in cottage pie as it does have carbs in. Can be found in the 'free from' section of the supermarket, I got mine in Tesco.

I personally have 4 packs a day and no veg- I've had it twice, once when out at a softplay so had a sidesaled with my bar and once this week a bit of cucumber as was peckish! I'm saving the chicken/fish and veg with 3 packs option till I really need it, entertaining or out etc. Mainly as I want a food break but also to stop temptation when buying food!

Good luck on S&S, mooch around the forum there are a few recipes here and advice like what flavoured waters we can have. I've started drinking tea on this diet as I'm always cold, loving the Earl Grey too!

Linda, seems better than Cambridge so far I must say !! good luck to you too - hey we could be slim by summer :)

Moosh good advice, thanks. Think I will stick with the 3 and veg and then just use the chicken/fish if Im going out. In the past Ive always told people if Im on a VLCD but think Im not going to say anything this time because a)I don't want people saying its not good for me (always some busybody putting their 2p in ) b) Ive no intention of failing but dont want to feel I have to justify if it doesn't go to plan c) when the weight is off I don't want them all saying it will go back on easily. Wimp I know but I need to be positive and focus on this without outside influences . Hubby is supportive and thats good enough for me ! :)
xx

Really good you have support, I quizzed my mum (over the phone, live 300 miles away) about CD as I knew she had done it and she was all for it, lost 3st when I was younger! So I told her what I was doing. She is supportive but health reasons mean she can't diet and is bigger than my start so I hate rubbing it in..... all my support really is on here!

I started off intending not to tell people but I told a good friend of mine that I was dieting and she asked all these questions and it all came out! She's really interested in the contents and health implecations. And I told my best friend almost all of the diet, she was asking about what I could eat as we usually go out for a meal with big-ass cake every week! And now I say I can't..... she is less supportive, more sceptical but she is getting married soon and says she want to lose weight but won't do anything about it so I wanted to give her the reason I was losing, self-control and MRP. So she wouldn't resent my losses! I think she is though, boo.

You can't help people resenting your losses moosh - it's their problem not yours. You're doing this for you and no one else. And if anyone tells me how unhealthy it is I just say how unhealthy it is to be morbidly obese where I started.

Sian, I think this is the beauty of this plan to be honest - you don't have to tell people you're doing a VLCD if you don't want to. People at work can be told that you're doing a variety of Slimfast and people you socialise with can be told you're doing low carb and see you eating veggies / salad and protein. Makes things so much easier if you don't want to say anything.

Totally agree, when I go out Im just going to tell people Im low carb-ing. Makes it much easier and I really don't have the time of inclination to justify VLCD or why Im doing it. Totally agree its far more unhealthy being this over weight.

A quick question, I will do a seperate post too but are there any low cal/carb salad dressings we can use (ie frylight ones , ww etc). Was going to have the spag bol with salad but not keen on it dry. Worst case can I use vinegar?

Ooooh, not sure but I think I've read that balsamic is out. The acid in it maybe, seems to be all about acid on VLCDs!

Welcome to the s and s board. It's lovely to see so many people starting the diet. In my opinion it really is the best vlcd around. You'll do just fine everyone here is very helpful full or advice and encouragement. I too would like to know about salad dressing I'd rather leave the salad if I have to eat it raw. Maybe a fat free vinegerette would be ok in a very small dose?

Hiya and welcome Sian :)

I am a newbie too, i officially start with my partner on Wed(the big day lol).

It is funny how when you mention to even family members about starting a vlcd their reaction is not the best!! Even work colleagues say " you are not getting enough calcium or nutrients, it's dangerous" makes me so mad i just think it's jealousy instead of supporting people and being happy for them!! Instead of them asking what the diet involves they judge and make their own descisions, instead of getting the facts lol.

BordersGirl you have a brill comeback with the morbidly obese thing(must tell me partner that one) he is getting a lot of flack from overweight workmates taking the P and telling him how unhealthy these diets are!

Anyway Good Luck Sian :)

And the other reason this is healthier is that my diet is now balanced and isn't made up of the alcohol and rubbish that it consisted of before! Plus I'm actually eating more veggies now than previously now that they're pretty much the only thing I can have bar the food packs :). I'm now feeling great - not unhealthy at all!

Thanks everyone, nice to meet you all !!

Well emailed Rob re salad dressing and good news girls - here is his reply:
"Fry Lite is fine, and any dressing that has no carbs or very very low carbs and hopefully low amounts of citric acid. (though its not conclusive that citric acid will bring you out of ketosis and we have done tests in the office with citric acid and ketosis and found no evidence to support these claims with the two girls who we tried it on)."

Yipee

Had spag bol tonight with added mushroom, worchester sauce and a little salad with fry light ceasar dressing - yum ! this could be easier than I thought :D

xxxxxx

That's great :-D

Oooh great news about the frylite dressing, gonna have to get that now lol the idea of spag bol with a small green salad sounds lovely!

thanks gunpowder, wow must be easier doing with your other half. mine is currently eating pizza followed by cadburys cream eggs !! (and he is one of those horid people who never puts weight on ) !!
