No idea where to start!

Hello I'm Sara and I'm overweight... very overweight... nearly 9st overweight in fact.
I have always been a bit bigger then the rest and I've just got bigger and bigger...

Last year I split with my partner and thought it was about time I lost some weight.
I joined Cambridge and lost 50lbs in 4 months. Unfortunately I fell off the wagon after having gall stone issues and gall bladder removal...
So here I am with all the weight back and more to boot. I ache constantly, always out of breathe and let's not even start on my knees! I'm too ashamed to leave my house most days but I have to for my daughter (she's 1).

I just don't know where to start! Hoping to find inspiration here at MiniMins

Welcome! :)

Hmm, as for where to start... what did you like/dislike about Cambridge? Are you looking to do the same plan again, or are you wanting to try something else?

I'm so sorry to hear about your recent health issues! :( I used to get out of breath really quickly as well, and something that helped build my endurance was sitting down exercise videos on YouTube. Might be good for you as well, due to your knee issues? Tiffany Rothe has a good one—you're meant to repeat her videos 3 times, but when I started out it was a struggle to get through it once! Just go at your own pace if you do decide to try a seated workout. You'll get there in time. xx

Good luck!

Hi and well done for making the first step!

I've come to realise that losing weight really is just a matter of burning off more than you put in. How you do that is up to you. Some people prefer to exercise loads but still eat a lot, others prefer to eat less. Some people find doing it themselves using apps or websites like My Fitness Pal etc help, others need the the accountability of weighing in with other people at classes. Some people prefer eating what they like, others prefer a strict, given diet.

You need to think what sort of person you are. For me, I love food and need to have the freedom to eat what I want (within boundaries!) and at the moment, have no intention of doing much exercise! I therefore chose WW and attend classes.

Whatever you decide, this is a great site and this board is full of really supportive people!

Good luck on your journey.

One pound at a time, lovely. :hug99: The thought of having to lose 8+ stones is just too big and scary a goal. Looks like you and me are in the same place, BMI-wise and in terms of goals, my first major goal is to get my BMI below 30. I know from experience that I felt pretty slim with a BMI of 30. Don't worry too much about BMI - it's about feeling fitter and more comfortable in your skin.

I couldn't face doing Cambridge again. I've done it many times (seriously, many times!) and done very well on it, but the pounds have always found me again. That said, I do know of several people who lost weight on a VLCD and kept it off. Whatever you do needs to fit in with your life - something that fits with how you live. My job now involves a lot of travel, so taking shakes and soups on the road was always going to be a challenge. It also involves having next to no routine - never quite knowing where I'll be for lunch or what time I'll have breakfast. So calorie counting works best for me. This time around, I'm concentrating on not dropping my calorie intake too low. I think stints on Cambridge and the like have you believing that the lower calorie you can go, the better, but busy people (especially those with toddlers!) need good nutrition. If you drop calories too far, you just won't get what you need (unless you do something like Cambridge - but over the years I've wondered how adequate the vitamins and minerals are in Cambridge packets).

I've been in a hurry to lose weight so many times - but it's never got me anywhere in the end. So this time I'm trying slow and steady. And while I'm waiting for my body to shift excess pounds, I've decided I'll make an effort to dress the body I have as well as I can - buy it new clothes that flatter its best bits, keep my hair looking nice etc. I've lived a life "on hold" for too long, if you know what I mean - waiting for the slim me to show up? But I've realised that a lot of how you look is how you feel about yourself, so I'm determined this time I'm not going to beat myself up for getting fatter again and be kinder to myself.

Not sure if any of that'll make sense to anyone but me... :D

You can do this. I think that's the thing to remember. And this bit of the forum is great - full of lovely kind and wise people who'll be with you along the way, cheering you on. I've only been here a week and wish I'd found it years ago!

Thank you
I'm thinking of doing SW at home till I can find a group that fits in around my daughter.

Hello & welcome :D

I started SLimming World for the first time ever in April. I'd previously done WW (& some at home crazy diets briefly!) and lost weight but genuinely feel this time it can really work & last forever. Not sure if as Kim says I've just found the right thing for me or my mind is in the right mindset or whether finding this lovely place full of warm, friendly, inspiring people has made it all fall into place but it has!

Good luck with what ever you choose and your journey.

Welcome lovely :) Good luck with your plans. I have to say that CC hasworked perfectly for me - but it may not work for you. Would a look in each specialist forum to see if any catch your eye help?
