OBG (Operation Bridal Gown!)

I have just over six months til my wedding and a hell of a lot of slimming to do to get into my dress! Was off-plan at the weekend (partying) but going to try to get on it today. I'm away for a mini-break again this weekend so I have to really go for it during the week. I have a skirt that is too small (but not as small as my wedding dress) so getting in to that skirt can be my next goal, I reckon it'll take me about a month.

hi all
I've been struggling to stick to sw on my own since my return from hols last week so aiming to join a meeting tonight. my concern is i haven't yet bought my dress n the wedding is in august n been advised i should buy it by end Jan if not sooner. i do hope to lose about 2/3 stone by wedding so prob couple sizes - can dresses be altered ? what would u advise to do? i don't wanna get it smaller encase i fail miserably!

When I bought my dress they said it could be altered to 3 dress sizes, not sure if that differs by dress though.

anyone else suffering from wedding planning boredom?! I just can't be bothered with it at the moment. So much to do and I just want to bury my head in the sand.

wish I was rich and could hire a wedding planner... :p

Hi all BTB's - I'm just trying to sort my stationery out - anyone else do/doing their own? I've got my design in mind that I'd like but not sure how easy it will be to print on pearlised card etc. xxx

Well, it's not so much boredom but there are days when I wish it was sooner, and then other days when I feel thank God I've still got months to go!
I have been looking at other dresses and have started to think that while I loved the dress I had (the one that was too small) it is not as nice as some others out there. I'm still going to keep it, if only as my motivation dress in terms of size. But I reckon I'll be wearing something different on the day. The one I have cost £120 I think and I will spend no more than £400 on a new one, so I guess it's still not too expensive overall....
Exciting!!!!
But if I do get a new one, I really will stop looking!

I can't wait to properly start planning my wedding!! My family and my fiance's family were all annoying me with their opinions on our big day, so I have decided to throw an engagement party on the 28th of this month and I have loved making the stationary, putting the favours together, sorting out decor and viewing hotels etc.

It's all so wonderful I can't wait to get in to the dress shopping!! I've set a goal for next March. The national wedding fayre takes place in Birmingham and I hope to be slimmer than I am now and then i'll have the confidence to try them all on!! I'm feeling so good at the moment, I nearly dragged my mum to try them on lol but decided against it as she was being a grumpy cow and I couldn't be bothered with her attitude!!

How are you all finding your families and their attitudes/ideas/opinions?

I have a big Irish catholic family and were getting married in a registry office! Don't think I need to say anymore! You can imagine! :D

First and foremost, this is your wedding day, so families/friends opinions are just those, their opinions! You do as you want to do! I know it's hard, I had it with my own wedding, with my mum telling me who to invite, where to have it, what flowers to have, that we couldn't have our son on the top table etc, that in the end I told them all to stop. They didn't like it much, but they still came to my wedding, and I'm happy to say that almost 10 years later, me and my hubby had the kind of wedding we wanted. :)

Can I join too?

I'm getting married 25th August 2012, have got a lot of weight to shift (about 6 stone!!).

I'm getting my dress made by the gypsy wedding dress woman (long story, but I'm not a traveller!) so at least it will fit me regardless, but I'd really like to feel great on the day and that means losing at least half of that 6 stone :)

Everything else is pretty much booked- including my midnight blue cadillac to take me to the church :bliss:

Hello OBG-ers! I haven't checked in here for such a long time *hangs head in shame*

How's it all going?

I am getting married THIS YEAR! :happy036: How exciting! I've decided to have my dress made, so the pressure is off a bit diet-wise, as it'll be made to my measurements, but of course like every bride, I want to look as good as I can on the big day, so I'm still going for it over the next few months. I'd like to be there by May so I can give myself a bit of leeway to maintain it...and so I can have fab hen do outfit and look good for that as well!)

Hope wedding planning going well for you x

I too am now a bride who can say that I'm getting married THIS YEAR!! :-D

My dress is nothing like the traveller ones! Thelma actually made my communion dress, as she did for most of my cousins and she has made a few wedding gowns for our family too. We had no idea she specialised in traveller gowns until the tv programme, but that explained why there were always some weird accents in the shop!!

My dress is 1950's style, tea length, quite a big skirt. Little bolero jacket thing with a high Elvis style collar on it. Oversized bow on the back and a pencil skirt underneath to I can take the full skirt off in the evening and have a different look. Not a single crystal on it, but my shoes and head thing (not a tiara, not a veil, can't really explain it) are very blingy.

I haven't got a photo as it's not been made yet! It's completely one off, which is what I wanted coz I can't stand the thought of sharing a dress! But we are definitely paying a premium dress price. I saw something similar and it was half the price!
