On or Off the pill

To be honest, don't think it makes any difference. I've done weight loss on it and off of it and it has made absolutely no difference at all. Some people claim that the pill makes them put on weight but my doctor said that it's always either because there's an increased hunger at first for some people, so it's a choice that that person makes to eat, doesn't just magically put weight on you. Or sometimes it causes a little water retention but just at first and that then goes away.

Ive lost weight whilst on the pill and off the pill. It all depends on the person and which pill they are on. I wouldnt come off it just to lose weight however!

I've lost all my weight while on the pill.

Because if effects hormone levels etc. it can make your either put on weight or lose it. It depends on you, the type of pill you get and how you handle an increased appetite.

So does the pill make you actually gain weight or just increase your appetite therefore you eat more and gain weight? xx

No, it doesn't actually make you gain weight, it can just increase your appetite which, if you then go and eat too much, will make you gain weight.

I personally think it's a little easier to lose weight on the pill - it controls my PMT to a certain extent, and when I get PMT I want to eat, eat, eat. Like others though, I've lost weight both on an off the pill. I think what really matters for me is the effort and determination I put in to it. In the past it's been half hearted to be honest, hence the thunder thighs! x

Best advice would be to speak to your doctor. There may be varieties where you don't get an appetite increase in the same way there are ones that are good for spots and others for PMT.

Pill weight gain, from what I'm aware is from hormonal changes. That can either be going on, or coming off the pill. If you are already on it, your hormones will be adjusted to what your pill provides. People usually only put pill weight on when they first go on it. As Jettica said, if in doubt your Doctor is the best person to speak to.

hi there if it isn't too personal may i ask what pill you take, i will be a med student soon and also have a lot of medical knowledge so may be able to offer advice to you :) (of course it isn't a substitute for your gp) but i have access to lot sof specialist medication books etc :D

I was on the pill for two years and found that it really increased my appetite, so I did end up putting a lot of weight on. I could have managed it a lot better than I did though, and I know it isn't the same for everyone, nor do all contraceptive pills have the same effect. i wouldn't go back onto it now though just because I dont like an external thing controlling my hormones/appetite.
Your GP should be able to recommend which pill would be best for you, knowing all the possible side effects. :)

You could ask your GP to go on a pill that increases the hormones in your body week by week like in your body. I tried a lot of pills and the one that has finally stuck with me, is Trinovum. Its a tri-phasic pill. each week the hormones increase stop the increased appitite and it works for me. x

I don't think the pill makes a difference for me. I was on the pill when I was my thinnest which was about a size 10-12, but my job literally included RUNNING after a tractor in 40 degree heat... :D Then I had a baby and gradually put it all back on, was on the injection then back to the pill. Didn't notice a change for about 4 years (about size 14-16) . I stopped taking the pill about a year ago (id been taking it since I was about 15?) and put weight on, eventually got up to a size 18! That was december 2011. I've lost 21lbs and im down to a size 14... phew!
Im thinking about going back on the pill because around period time I just eat and eat and eat! I just sat and ate half a packet of oreos :sigh: Does anyone find that the pill helps with cravings? I have to admit I don't remember ever having cravings this bad a few cycles ago!

I've put on weight since I went on the pill but I'm unsure if my weight gain is because of the pill, if you know what I mean. I've gained since I've gone on it. I was on Dianette but I'm now on Yasmin.
